This review focuses on recent progress in developing heterologous and recombinant expression as well as in vitro maturation systems for the biosynthesis of active [FeFe] and [NiFe]-hydrogenases, which catalyze the reversible reaction, H2 <--> 2e- + 2H+. Activities of [FeFe] and [NiFe]-hydrogenases produced from different recombinant and in vitro maturation approaches are compared. Examples of how hydrogenase expression supports basic and applied studies of these enzymes are presented, and barriers to achieving more viable biological and synthetic H2-production systems and catalysts are addressed.

The human cellular cytidine deaminases APOBEC3s (A3s) inhibit virion infectivity factor (Vif)-deficient HIV-1 replication. However, virus-encoded Vifs abolish this defense system by specifically recruiting A3s to an E3 ubiquitin ligase complex to induce their degradation. The highly conserved Vif PPLP motif is critical for the Vif-mediated antagonism of A3s and is believed to be important for Vif multimerization.

Serum progesterone may increase prior to ovulation trigger in in vitro fertilization patients, jeopardizing endometrial receptivity and therefore live birth rate. Recombinant FSH (rFSH) promotes progesterone production from human granulosa cells. Yet, the role of FSH on progesterone production need deeper exploration.

Macrophages play a crucial role in the immune response during allograft rejection in organ transplantation. Therefore, our study aimed to explore the genomic features of macrophages in mouse heart transplants and use single-cell RNA sequencing to investigate Galectin-9 (Gal-9, Lgals9), a lectin that can mediate the activation and differentiation of immune cells through ligand-receptor interactions, and the effects of its regulation in transplantation. We discovered a new subset of macrophages called "Myoz2+ macrophages", which specifically expressed genes related to myocardial contraction.

Glycosaminoglycan (GAG) molecules on the surface of red blood cells play an important regulatory role in the invasion of merozoites of apicomplexan protozoa. Heparan sulfate, a type of GAG molecule, has been identified as an important receptor facilitating the invasion of red blood cells by these parasites. Proteins in the parasite that exhibit strong affinity for heparin may play a pivotal role in this invasion process.

This study investigates the use of recombinant peptidases (EC 3.4) to improve protein hydrolysis and digestibility in , with a focus on addressing the challenge of reduced protein bioavailability for monogastric animals due to resistant protein-pigment formations, such as phycocyanin, and increased digesta viscosity caused by jellification properties. A library of 192 peptidases was generated, from which 142 soluble peptidases were expressed in and subsequently screened for activity against an suspension .
