The large size 20 mm diameter naphthalene single crystals were grown by modified vertical Bridgman method. The optical quality of the grown crystal was analyzed by photoluminescence and ultraviolet visible absorption spectral measurements. Photoluminescence spectrum indicated violet emission at 410 nm. The UV-vis absorption spectrum shows the maximum at 219.32 nm. The microhardness measurements and differential thermal analysis performed to analyze the mechanical and thermal stability of the as grown crystals. The dielectric measurements were carried out at five frequencies, viz., 100 Hz, 1 kHz, 10 kHz, 100 kHz and 1 MHz and at various temperatures, ranging from 308 K to 348 K indicate an increase of the dielectric parameters with the increase of temperature at all the five frequencies. The conductivity of the material is understood to be more of electronic in nature. Also, the increase in the dielectric parameters with that of temperature is due to the temperature variation of electronic polarizability.

Background: Long COVID (LC) is characterized by persistent symptoms at least 3 months after a SARS-COV-2 infection. LC has been associated with fungal translocation, gut dysfunction, and enhanced systemic inflammation. Currently, there is no approved treatment for this condition.

A concise, transition metal-free four-step synthetic pathway has been developed for the synthesis of tetracyclic heterosteroidal compounds, 14-aza-12-oxasteroids, starting from readily available 2-naphthol analogues. After conversion of 2-naphthols to 2-naphthylamines by the Bucherer reaction, subsequent selective C-acetylation was achieved via the Sugasawa reaction and reduction of the acetyl group using borohydride, which resulted into the corresponding amino-alcohols. The naphthalene-based amino-alcohols underwent double dehydrations and double intramolecular cyclization with oxo-acids leading to one-pot formation of a C-N bond, a C-O bond and an amide bond in tandem, to generate two additional rings completing the steroidal framework.

We perform DFT calculations with different hybrid (ωB97X-D and M05-2X) and double hybrid (B2PLYP-D3 and ωB2PLYP) functionals to characterize the lowest energy triplet excited states of naphthalene monomer and dimers in different stacking arrangements and to simulate their absorption spectra. We show that both excimer and localized triplet minima exist. In the former, the spin density is delocalized over the two monomers, adopting a face-to-face arrangement with a short inter-molecular distance.

Sertraline, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), is commonly used to treat various psychiatric disorders such as depression and anxiety due to its ability to increase serotonin availability in the brain. Recent findings suggest that sertraline may also influence the expression of genes related to synaptic plasticity and neuronal signaling pathways. Alternative splicing, a process that allows a single gene to produce multiple protein isoforms, plays a crucial role in the regulation of neuronal functions and plasticity.

Two newly synthesized ligands, 1-((2-(4-(4-methoxyphenyl)thiazol-2-yl)hydrazono)methyl)naphthalen-2-ol (HL1) and 1-((2-(4-(naphthalen-1-yl)thiazol-2-yl)hydrazono)methyl)naphthalen-2-ol (HL2) were characterized using spectroscopy and single X-ray crystallography. Both belong to triclinic systems with space groups P21/c (HL1) and P-1 (HL2), exhibiting planar structures. Biological assays revealed significant antitumor activity, with HL2 showing significant antitumor activity against HepG2 cells (IC: 3.
