Inadvertent use of water-based ink instead of trypan blue in cataract surgery.

Cutan Ocul Toxicol

Published: January 2010

We report a case of iris atrophy and corneal endothelial decompensation following the inadvertent use of water-based ink for capsular staining during cataract surgery. The anterior chamber was thoroughly irrigated with balanced salt solution after the identification of the wrong dye. Phacoemulsification with minimal ultrasound energy and intraocular lens implantation were performed without complications, and the operation was completed. The patient finally developed bullous keratopathy and underwent penetrating keratoplasty 4 months later.

Estimates of Dietary Exposure to Antibiotics among a Community Population in East China.

Antibiotics (Basel)

March 2022

NHC Key Laboratory of Health Technology Assessment, School of Public Health, Fudan University, Shanghai 200032, China.

Background: Antibiotics are widely used in clinics, livestock farms and the aquaculture industry. A variety of antibiotics in foods and drinking water may lead to important and inadvertent dietary exposure However, the profile of dietary exposure to antibiotics in humans is not well-explored. East China is an economically developed area with a high usage of antibiotics and a high rate of antibiotic resistance (ABR).

Controllable Singlet Oxygen Generation in Water Based on Cyclodextrin Secondary Assembly for Targeted Photodynamic Therapy.

Biomacromolecules

December 2020

Department College of Chemistry, State Key Laboratory of Elemento-Organic Chemistry, Nankai University, Tianjin 300071, China.

The construction of supramolecular assembly whose singlet oxygen (O) generation capability can be controllably regulated in water still remains challenging. Herein, a novel cyclodextrin secondary assembly was fabricated from the photochromic-switch moiety diarylethene-bridged dicyclodextrin, the adamantane-polypyridyl ruthenium photosensitizer, and the cancer-cell-targeting ligand β-cyclodextrin-grafted hyaluronic acid, which not only possessed cancer-cell-targeting ability but also served as cell imaging and photodynamic therapy agents with noninvasive controllability. In virtue of the multivalent interactions between the three components, they could self-assemble in two stages to form uniform spherical nanoparticles (OF-NPs) with average diameters of about 80 nm, as indicated by scanning electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and dynamic light scattering.

An inadvertent leakage of Sr into the environment can induce an easy accumulation in biosphere and cause a continuous radiation to the surrounding ecosystem. In this study, sodium hexametaphosphate (NaOP) was employed to modify the blast furnace slags (BFS) to enhance the chemical stabilization of Sr ions in the BFS-based cementitious materials. Microwave irradiation (MW) was used to further increase the binder activity of BFS samples and strengthened the mechanical strengths and durability of BFS-based blocks.
