The compounds M(2)(TiPB)(2)(OSC-2-Th)(2) have been prepared from the reactions between M(2)(TiPB)(4) and Th-2-COSH (2 equiv) in toluene solution, where M = Mo (Mo(2)ThCOS) or W (W(2)ThCOS), TiPB = 2,4,6-triisopropylbenzoate and Th = thienyl. The molybdenum and tungsten compounds are pink and blue, air-sensitive, ether soluble solids that show M(+) ions in the mass spectrometer and metal and ligand based reversible oxidation and reduction waves, respectively, by cyclic voltammetry. Electronic structure calculations on the model compounds M(2)(O(2)CH)(2)(OSC-2-Th)(2) indicate that the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) is principally M(2)delta and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) is thienylthiocarboxylate pi* but with significant metal-sulfur mixing. The intense visible absorptions arise from (1)MLCT, M(2)delta to thienylthiocarboxylate. The photoexcited states of these molecules have been studied by transient absorption spectroscopy and steady state emission. These properties are compared with those of previously reported thienylcarboxylate compounds, M(2)(TiPB)(2)(O(2)C-2-Th)(2), where M = Mo (Mo(2)ThCO(2)) or W (W(2)ThCO(2)).

The human lacrimal gland (LG), located above the outer orbital region within the frontal bone socket, is essential in maintaining eye surface health and lubrication. It is firmly anchored to the orbital periosteum by the connective tissue, and it is vital for protecting and lubricating the eye by secreting lacrimal fluid. Disruption in the production, composition, or secretion of lacrimal fluid can lead to dry eye syndrome, a condition characterized by ocular discomfort and potential eye surface damage.

Context: The study of the influence of solvent on 1-bromo adamantane (BAD) exposes prominent solvatochromatic shifts in the optical absorbance and substantial solvent effects on the electronic structure. This facilitates the molecular probe abilities for the BAD with respect to the surrounding environments such as dielectric constant and polarity. BAD exhibits positive solvatochromism for nonpolar solvents and negative solvatochromatic shifts for polar and aromatic solvents.

We have quantum chemically analyzed the trends in bond dissociation enthalpy (BDE) of H3C-XHn single bonds (XHn = CH3, NH2, OH, F, Cl, Br, I) along three different dissociation pathways at ZORA-BLYP-D3(BJ)/TZ2P: (i) homolytic dissociation into H3C∙ + ∙XHn, (ii) heterolytic dissociation into H3C+ + -XHn, and (iii) heterolytic dissociation into H3C- + +XHn. The associated BDEs for the three pathways differ not only quantitatively but, in some cases, also in terms of opposite trends along the C-X series. Based on activation strain analyses and quantitative molecular orbital theory, we explain how these differences are caused by the profoundly different electronic structures of, and thus bonding mechanisms between, the resulting fragments in the three different dissociation pathways.

In quantum information science and sensing, electron spins are often purified into a specific polarization through an optical-spin interface, a process known as optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR). Diamond-NV centers and transition metals are both excellent platforms for these so-called color centers, while metal-free molecular analogues are also gaining popularity for their extended polarization lifetimes, milder environmental impacts, and reduced costs. In our earlier attempt at designing such organic high-spin π-diradicals, we proposed to spin-polarize by shelving triplet = ±1 populations as singlets.

The goal of this study was to synthesize and evaluate new antimicrobial compounds. We specifically focused on the development of 2,5-disubstituted tetrazole derivatives containing the O-methyl-2,3-O-isopropylidene-(D)-ribofuranoside groups through N-alkylation reactions. The synthesized compounds were characterized using H and C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.
