Mitotic inheritance of the Golgi complex.

In mammals, the Golgi complex is structured in the form of a continuous membranous system composed of stacks connected by tubular bridges, the "Golgi ribbon". At the onset of mitosis, the Golgi complex undergoes a multi-step fragmentation process that is required for its correct partition into the dividing cells. Regulation of Golgi fragmentation and cell cycle progression appear to be precisely coordinated. Here, we review recent studies that are revealing the fundamental mechanisms, the molecular players and the biological significance of the mitotic inheritance of the Golgi complex in mammalian cells.

Background: Gastric cancer (GC) remains a significant health burden, calling for the discovery of novel biomarkers. Golgi apparatus, a crucial cellular organelle involved in tumorigenesis, remains underexplored in GC research. A comprehensive understanding of its role and associated mechanisms is urgently needed.

Coronaviruses are characterized by their progeny assembly and budding in the endoplasmic reticulum-Golgi intermediate compartment (ERGIC). Our previous studies demonstrated that truncation of 9 amino acids in the cytoplasmic tail (CT) of the infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) spike (S) protein impairs its localization to the ERGIC, resulting in increased expression at the plasma membrane. However, the precise mechanism underlying this phenomenon remained elusive.

The GC (Golgi complex) plays a pivotal role in the trafficking and sorting of proteins and lipids until they reach their final destination. Additionally, the GC acts as a signalling hub to regulate a multitude of cellular processes, including cell polarity, motility, apoptosis, DNA repair and cell division. In light of these crucial roles, the GC has garnered increasing attention, particularly given the evidence that a dysregulation of GC-regulated signalling pathways may contribute to the onset of various pathological conditions.

Golgi apparatus (GA) and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) are two of the interesting subcellular organelles that are critical for protein synthesis, folding, processing, post-translational modifications, and secretion. Consequently, dysregulation in GA and ER and cross-talk between them are implicated in numerous diseases including cancer. As a result, simultaneous visualization of the GA and ER in cancer cells is extremely crucial for developing cancer therapeutics.

N, N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) in rodent brain: Concentrations, distribution, and recent pharmacological data.

Renewed interest in the clinical use of psychedelic drugs acknowledges their therapeutic effectiveness. It has also provided a changing frame of reference for older psychedelic drug study data, especially regarding concentrations of N, N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) reported in rodent brains and recent discoveries in DMT receptor interactions in rat brain neurons and select brain areas. The mode of action of DMT in its newly defined role as a neuroplastogen, its effectiveness in treating neuropsychiatric disorders, and its binding to intracellular sigma-1 and 5HT2a receptors may define these possible roles.
