We performed plasmid electrotransformation of Caulobacter crescentus strains and obtained up to 3 x 10(8) transformants per micrograms of pKT230. The presence and integrity of the paracrystalline protein surface (S) layer influenced electroporation; caulobacters lacking the S layer were electrotransformed 10 times more efficiently than caulobacters possessing the S layers. A procedure yielding 1,500 transformants per micrograms of pKT230 was developed for a marine caulobacter. Electroporation was used in combination with several genetic techniques, including introduction of ligation mixtures, suicide transposon mutagenesis, gene replacement, and plasmid electrotransfer from Escherichia coli to caulobacters.

Food packaging industries are growing to meet consumer demand and prevent pollution by adopting significant biopolymer advancements. Therefore, this study aimed to develop functionally active chitosan (CS)/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-based biopolymer films and evaluate the effect of Justicia Adhatoda extract (JAE), pure quercetin (Q), and CS-capped quercetin nanoparticles ((Q) NPs) on sustainable bread packaging. CS was successfully loaded onto (Q) by the one-pot method, which was confirmed by light absorption spectroscopy (UV), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and X-ray diffraction (XRD).

COVID-19 disease, triggered by SARS-CoV-2 virus infection, has led to more than 7.0 million deaths worldwide, with a significant fraction of recovered infected people reporting postviral symptoms. Smart surfaces functionalized with nanoparticles are a powerful tool to inactivate the virus and prevent the further spreading of the disease.

Dust aerosols significantly impact climate, human health, and ecosystems, but how land cover changes (LCC) influence dust concentrations remains unclear. Here, we applied the Weather Research and Forecasting model coupled with Chemistry (WRF-Chem) to assess the effects of LCC on dust aerosol concentrations from 2000 to 2020 in northern China. Based on land cover data derived from multi-source satellite remote sensing data, we conducted two simulation scenarios: one incorporating actual annual LCC and another assuming static land cover since 2000.

Guava (Psidium guajava L.) is one of the most nutrient-dense fruits, which is native to tropical and subtropical regions of the world. The processing of value-added products from guava has not been carried out on a scale similar to some other fruits, which offers an opportunity to fully exploit the potential of this fruit, such as guava-based nutraceutical food products.

Protein-based materials are biocompatible and have a variety of remarkable properties; consequently, they are finding more and more applications. Nature recycles proteins in multiple ways, ranging from bio-degradation (a slow approach) to fast recycling of protein metabolism. The latter is a wonderful example because a random mixture of proteins gets digested into amino acids (AAs), the fundamental building blocks of proteins.
