1. Specific precipitates resulting from the interaction of the homologous capsular polysaccharide and Type I antipneumococcus horse and rabbit sera have been analyzed by gasometric micro methods for total nitrogen, lipid nitrogen, and lipid carbon. 2. Lipid may, under certain conditions, form as much as 51 per cent or as little as 4 per cent by weight of specific precipitates. 3. The total lipid content of specific precipitates, within the range studied, is entirely independent of the protein content. 4. Lipid nitrogen forms a very small but detectable portion of the total nitrogen of precipitates. 5. The absolute lipid content of precipitates is a function of the concentration of lipid in the reacting mixture prior to precipitation, and seems to be governed by the laws of adsorption phenomena.

We present a model to describe the concentration-dependent growth of protein filaments. Our model contains two states, a low entropy/high affinity ordered state and a high entropy/low affinity disordered state. Consistent with experiments, our model shows a diffusion-limited linear growth regime at low concentration, followed by a concentration-independent plateau at intermediate concentrations, and rapid disordered precipitation at the highest concentrations.

Shrub encroachment into grasslands poses a global concern, impacting species biodiversity and ecosystem functioning. Yet, the effect of shrub encroachment on herbaceous diseases and the dependence of that effect on climatic factors remain ambiguous. This study spans over 4,000 km, examining significant variability in temperature and precipitation.

Oil fields located in cold environments and deep-sea locations often face challenges with paraffin wax buildup in pipelines during long-distance crude oil transportation. Various strategies have been employed to address this issue, with chemical methods being the most effective and economical. However, traditional chemical inhibitors present problems due to their high toxicity and low biodegradability, leading to increased operational costs and environmental concerns.

Early detection of bovine mastitis-causing pathogens is necessary for treatment. As culturing methods are time-consuming, a more rapid detection technique is required. This study investigated the sensitivity, specificity, and detection limit of Gram staining of milk precipitates (milk Gram stain, MGS) to detect bovine mastitis-causing pathogens in milk, as well as the potential of MGS to diagnose inflammation by counting polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN).

The existing demand for the development of innovative multimodal imaging nanomaterial probes for biomedical applications stems from their unique combination of dual response modalities, , photoluminescence (PL) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In this study, for the first time, neodymium (Nd) and dysprosium (Dy) rare earth (RE) metal ions were co-doped into a hydroxyapatite (HAp) crystal lattice using a simple microwave-assisted synthesis technique to incorporate the essential properties of both the lanthanides in HAp. Theoretical as well as experimental studies were performed on novel Nd:Dy:HAp nanoparticles (NPs) to understand their photoluminescence and magnetic behaviour.
