Primary hydatid cyst in the head of pancreas is rare. We report a case of a 26-year-old patient, who presented with obstructive jaundice. The imaging studies, while demonstrating a fusiform dilatation of the common bile duct, was unhelpful in identifying the etiology. A pancreatic head cyst was discovered at the time of surgery. Diagnosis was confirmed by subsequent serology and identification of scolices on microscopic examination. From the reported data, we discuss the diagnostic and therapeutic modalities of this rare disease.

Introduction: Peritoneal hydatid disease accounts for 2-13 % of abdominal hydatidosis cases. Due to its nonspecific clinical presentation and potential for multi-organ involvement, the condition is often misdiagnosed. Evidence on managing primary peritoneal hydatid cysts remains limited, presenting challenges in diagnosis and treatment.

Background Alveolar echinococcosis (AE) is a fatal zoonotic disease distributed mainly in the Northern Hemisphere. At present, its curative treatment relies on surgery, and the development of effective drugs is needed. We previously demonstrated the anti-echinococcal effect of atovaquone (ATV) as a mitochondrial complex III inhibitor in both in vitro and in vivo experiments.
