Channelrhodopsin-2 mediates phototaxis in green algae by acting as a light-gated cation channel. As a result of this property, it is used as a novel optogenetic tool in neurophysiological applications. Structural information is still scant and we present here the first resonance Raman spectra of channelrhodopsin-2. Spectra of detergent solubilized and lipid-reconstituted protein were recorded under pre-resonant conditions to exclusively probe retinal in its electronic ground state. All-trans retinal was identified to be the favoured configuration of the chromophore but significant contributions of 13-cis were detected. Pre-illumination hardly changed the isomeric composition but small amounts of presumably 9-cis retinal were found in the light-adapted state. Spectral analysis suggested that the Schiff base proton is strongly hydrogen-bonded to a nearby water molecule.

This article studies the synthesis, as well as the structural, vibrational, and optical properties of Eu-doped ZnO quantum dots (QDs) and investigates the energy transfer mechanism from the ZnO host to Eu ions using Reisfeld's approximation. Eu-doped ZnO QDs at varying concentrations (0-7%) were successfully prepared using a wet chemical method. The successful doping of Eu ions into the ZnO host lattice, as well as the composition and valence states of the elements present in the sample, were confirmed through X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses.

Nanoparti-cles, which are the most frequently preferred nanomaterials that form the basis of nanotechnolo-gy, are prepared with different composition, size, shape and surface chemistry to provide new techniques in applications in many different fields. The use of nanoparticles in the preparation of plasmonic sensors has increased the interest in plasmonic sensors such as surface plasmon resonance, electrochemical sensors, surface enhanced raman scattering and colorimetric sensors due to their increased sensing capacity on sensor surfaces.

Background Emerging evidence suggests mitochondrial dysfunction may play a role in the fatigue experienced by individuals with post-COVID-19 condition (PCC), commonly called long COVID, which can be assessed using MR spectroscopy. Purpose To compare mitochondrial function between participants with fatigue-predominant PCC and healthy control participants using MR spectroscopy, and to investigate the relationship between MR spectroscopic parameters and fatigue using the 11-item Chalder fatigue questionnaire. Materials and Methods This prospective, observational, single-center study (June 2021 to January 2024) included participants with PCC who reported moderate to severe fatigue, with normal blood test and echocardiographic results, alongside control participants without fatigue symptoms.

A novel phthalocyanine-based hybrid nanofilm is for the first time successfully applied as an oxidative platform for surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) sensing to fine-resolve Raman-inactive compounds. The hybrid is formed by self-assembly of zinc(II) 2,3,9,10,16,17,23,24-Octa[(3',5'-dicarboxy)-phenoxy]phthalocyaninate (ZnPc*) with the solid-supported monolayer of graphene oxide (GO) mediated by zinc acetate metal cluster. Atomic force microscopy, UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopies confirm that this simple coordination motive in combination with molecular structure of ZnPc* prevents contact quenching of the light-excited triplet state through aromatic stacking with GO particles.

This study deals with the unprecedented reactivity of a [(cyclam)Mn(OTf)] (3-cis; OTf = CFSO) with O, which, depending on the presence or absence of a hydrogen atom donor like 1-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-piperidine (TEMPO-H), selectively generates di-μ-oxo Mn(III)Mn(IV) (1) or Mn (2) complexes, respectively. Both dimers have been characterized by different techniques including single-crystal X-ray diffraction, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and electron paramagnetic resonance. Oxygenation reactions carried out with labeled O and Resonance Raman spectroscopy unambiguously show that the oxygen atoms present in the MnMn dimer originate from O.
