Purpose: Measurement of intraoperative intact parathyroid hormone (ioPTH) levels is a reliable predictor of postsurgical hypocalcemia. We assessed the optimal cutoff values of ioPTH decline for predicting postoperative early and permanent hypoparathyroidism.
Methods: This was a retrospective study of a prospectively maintained database of patients undergoing thyroid surgery in a tertiary care hospital in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona, Spain).

Objective: Screening for advanced fibrosis (AF) resulting from metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is recommended in diabetology. This study aimed to compare the performance of noninvasive tests (NITs) with that of two-step algorithms for detecting patients at high risk of AF requiring referral to hepatologists.
Research Design And Methods: We conducted a planned interim analysis of a prospective multicenter study including participants with type 2 diabetes and/or obesity and MASLD with comprehensive liver assessment comprising blood-based NITs, vibration-controlled transient elastography (VCTE), and two-dimensional shear-wave elastography (2D-SWE).

Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are at a high risk of developing secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT), which may cause organ dysfunction and increase patient mortality. The main clinical interventions for CKD-SHPT involve calcium supplements to boost absorption, but ineffective for some patients, and the reasons remain unclear. Pharmacologic beta-blockade is a well-established therapy for reducing adverse effects from sympathetic overactivity in cardiovascular diseases, such as heart failure. Despite decades of research efforts, in vivo cardiac functional studies utilizing genetic animal models remain scant. We generated a mouse model of cardiomyocyte-specific deletion of beta-1 adrenergic receptor (ADRB1) , the primary subtype expressed in cardiac myocytes, and demonstrated the role for ADRB1 in the maintenance of cardiac function at baseline and during exposure to increase in cardiac afterload by transient aortic occlusion and increasing heart rates (HRs) via atrial pacing.
