This study addresses the challenges of confounding effects and interpretability in artificial-intelligence-based medical image analysis. Whereas existing literature often resolves confounding by removing confounder-related information from latent representations, this strategy risks affecting image reconstruction quality in generative models, thus limiting their applicability in feature visualization. To tackle this, we propose a different strategy that retains confounder-related information in latent representations while finding an alternative confounder-free representation of the image data.

Accurate prediction of polymer properties using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations requires a properly relaxed starting structure. Polymer models built from scratch by specialized algorithms (self-avoiding random walk, Monte Carlo, etc.) are far from relaxed and, moreover, often possess a large number of structural defects: close contacts between atoms, wrong bond distances, voids, unfavorable molecular conformations or packing, etc.

Mesenteric hematomas, a rare and clinically significant condition, are typically associated with abdominal trauma, vascular conditions, or surgical complications. Spontaneous mesenteric hematomas, an even rarer subtype, are often seen in patients who are on anticoagulation therapy or have inguinal hernias. In this case report, we discuss an 89-year-old male patient who initially presented with stable vital signs and abdominal pain but was later discovered to have a large, stable mesenteric hematoma on an abdominal computed tomography scan.

Basic emotion theories (BETs) and the theory of constructed emotion (TCE) have both made significant contributions to the field of affective science despite a persistent divide between the two camps. We argue that focusing on which camp is right hampers possibly fruitful collaborations between affective researchers working within different theoretical frameworks. The TCE and BETs can complement each other because they focus on different features of and questions about affective processes.
