A phosphine-free palladium catalyst for aqueous Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling is presented. The catalyst is active enough to mediate hindered, ortho-substituted biaryl couplings but mild enough for use on peptides and proteins. The Suzuki-Miyaura couplings on protein substrates are the first to proceed in useful conversions. Notably, hydrophobic aryl and vinyl groups can be transferred to the protein surface without the aid of organic solvent since the aryl- and vinylboronic acids used in the coupling are water-soluble as borate salts. The convenience and activity of this catalyst prompts use in both general synthesis and bioconjugation.

We report herein two families of porous coordination clusters (PCCs) with 216 nuclearity (M120RE96 or PCC-216MR) and 300 nuclearity (Co144Gd156 or PCC-300CG). For the first family M could be either nickel or cobalt, and RE = Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, and Gd; while the latter features the highest nuclearity of transition-rare earth metal clusters. Characterized by their cube-like, hollow structures, these clusters exhibit the ability to absorb N2 and CO2.

Lipid peroxidation is a major process that determines the quality of various oil samples during their use and storage, in which the primary products are hydroperoxides (HP'). HP' are very stable compounds at ambient conditions and are harmful to human health. Therefore, the evaluation of the degree of oil oxidation is an excellent tool for ensuring food safety.

In organic synthesis, the solvent is the chemical compound that represents the largest proportion of the process. However, conventional solvents are often toxic and dangerous for the environment, and an interesting alternative is to replace them by water. In this context, catalyst surfactants allow both organic reagents in water to be solubilized and organic reactions to be catalyzed.

Heterojunction formation between BiVO nanomaterials and benchmark semiconductor photocatalysts has been keenly pursued as a promising approach to improve charge transport and charge separation via interfacial electron transfer for the photoelectrocatalytic degradation of recalcitrant pharmaceutical pollutants. In this work, a heterostructured TiO/Mo-BiVO bilayer photoanode was fabricated by the deposition of a mesoporous TiO overlayer using the benchmark P25 titania catalyst on top of Mo-doped BiVO inverse opal films as the supporting layer, which intrinsically absorbs visible light below 490 nm, while offering improved charge transport. A porous P25/Mo-BiVO bilayer structure was produced from the densification of the inverse opal underlayer after post-thermal annealing, which was evaluated on photocurrent generation in aqueous electrolyte and the photoelectrocatalytic degradation of the refractory anti-inflammatory drug ibuprofen under back-side illumination by visible and UV-Vis light.

We successfully synthesize monodisperse sulfhydryl-modified mesoporous organosilica nanospheres (MONs-SH) via one-step hydrolytic condensation, where cetyltrimethylammonium chloride and dodecyl sulfobetaine are employed as dual-template agents with (3-mercaptopropyl)triethoxysilane and 1,2-bis(triethoxysilyl)ethane as the precursors and concentrated ammonia as the alkaline catalyst. The prepared MONs-SHs deliver a large specific surface area (729.15 m g), excellent monodispersity, and homogeneous particle size.
