We observed Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) with a covalently linked donor-acceptor pair D-A consisting of two naphthalene groups acting as the donors and a benzofurazan group acting as the acceptor and adsorbed onto Ag or Au nanoisland films. The use of metal nanoisland films, which caused a strong enhancement of the Raman signal, permitted description of the adsorption mechanism onto the two metals. The intense fluorescence response of molecular adsorbates and the different behavior of the antenna on Ag and Au nanoislands are partly explained in terms of the radiating plasmon model.

The possible contribution of phonon drag effect to the thermoelectrically sustained potential of a heated nanoisland on a semiconductor surface was estimated in a first principal consideration. We regarded electrons and phonons as interacting particles, and the interaction cross-section was derived from the basic theory of semiconductors. The solution of the equation of motion for average electrons under the simultaneous action of phonon drag and electric field gave the distributions of phonon flux, density of charge carriers and electric potential.

A key challenge in the field of plexcitonic quantum devices is the fabrication of solid-state, device-friendly plexcitonic nanostructures using inexpensive and scalable techniques. Lithography-free, bottom-up nanofabrication methods have remained relatively unexplored within the context of plexcitonic coupling. In this work, a plexcitonic system consisting of thermally dewetted plasmonic gold nanoislands (AuNI) coated with a thin film of J-aggregates was investigated.

The dewetting of thin Pt films on different surfaces is investigated as a means to provide the patterning for the top-down fabrication of GaN nanowire ensembles. The transformation from a thin film to an ensemble of nanoislands upon annealing proceeds in good agreement with the void growth model. With increasing annealing duration, the size and shape uniformity of the nanoislands improves.
