An experimental system to measure the elastic wave velocities of hot-pressed polycrystalline samples at high pressure and high temperature has been installed at SPring-8. It uses a combination of the ultrasonic pulse-echo-overlap method and Kawai-type multi-anvil apparatus (SPEED-1500). X-ray radiographic imaging enables the sample length to be determined at high pressure and high temperature, which is indispensable for precise determination of elastic wave velocity. Precise measurements of the elastic wave velocities of various minerals have been determined at pressures up to 19 GPa and temperatures up to 1673 K. The experimental technique provides the precise elastic wave velocities of various materials corresponding to those in the Earth's mantle.

Racial and Ethnic Differences in Long-Term Outcomes among Individuals with Opioid Use Disorder at Opioid Treatment Programs.

J Racial Ethn Health Disparities

December 2024

Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at the David Geffen School of Medicine, University of California, Los Angeles, CA, USA.

Objectives: Racial and ethnic differences in long-term outcomes associated with medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) are poorly understood.

Methods: The present analyses were based on 751 participants with opioid use disorder (OUD) who were initially recruited from opioid treatment programs located in California, Connecticut, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Washington and participated in a randomized controlled trial and at least one follow-up interview. 9.

The welding of titanium alloys is an important topic in today's industrial field, and the interaction between the solder and the base material is crucial for the quality of the welded parts. The structural, elastic, electronic, and thermal properties of Ti-Al-Me (Me = Cu, Fe and Ni) alloys (TAMs) with the face-centered cubic structures were investigated using plane-wave pseudo potential method in the framework of density functional theory. Based on the calculated elastic constants combined with empirical and semi-empirical formulas, physical properties including ductility/brittleness, hardness and anisotropy were calculated.

Understanding the association between urban noise and nighttime light in China.

Sci Rep

December 2024

School of Architecture and Urban-Rural Planning, Fuzhou University, Fuzhou, 350108, China.

Nighttime light data partially reflects the process of urban modernization and its reaction to urban scale, but its correlation with noise remains unclear, especially over a long-term time series, remains unclear. To address this gap, we examine 31 provincial capital cities and municipalities in China as the study area, utilizing noise monitoring data and nighttime light data to explore their relationship in urban areas from 2012 to 2021. The results show that: (1) During the study period, the regional environmental noise and night light index of 31 major cities exhibited a consistent upward trend, with the average equivalent sound level of environmental noise in most urban areas fluctuating between 50.

A weighted fuzzy inference method and application on wheel damage analysis.

Sci Rep

December 2024

School of Computer and Information Engineering, Shanghai Polytechnic University, Shanghai, 201209, China.

To mitigate the safety risks and economic losses caused by wheel damage, this paper proposes an interval valued fuzzy inference-based sound analysis method for wheel damage detection. Firstly, interval valued fuzzy sets are defined to represent various levels of damage severity. A similarity calculation method is then designed, based on the defined interval valued fuzzy sets, to assess the damage level of wheel components.

Biomarkers that aid in early detection of neurodegeneration are needed to enable early symptomatic treatment and enable identification of people who may benefit from neuroprotective interventions. Increasing evidence suggests that sleep biomarkers may be useful, given the bi-directional relationship between sleep and neurodegeneration and the prominence of sleep disturbances and altered sleep architectural characteristics in several neurodegenerative disorders. This study aimed to demonstrate that sleep can accurately characterize specific neurodegenerative disorders (NDD).
