The discovery of neural stem cells (NSCs) provides new therapeutic strategies for brain injury by means of endogenous cell renewal. In the injured mouse brain, bio-liberated gold ions from gold implants mediate anti-inflammatory and antiapoptotic effects and activation of NSCs. This paper investigates the neuroprotective effects of gold following brain injury in mice. We show for the first time that endogenous NSCs express macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF) as part of their post-injury activation and that gold implants increase this response. Also, gold increases expression of neurotrophin (NT)-4, transforming growth factor-beta 3 (TGF-beta 3), leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) and metallothionein I+II (MT-I+II) post-injury. This paper shows that gold ions modulate neurotrophic factors after injury and that hematopoietic factor M-CSF is expressed in activated NSCs.

Cisplatin-based platinum compounds are important clinical chemotherapeutic agents that participate in most tumor chemotherapy regimens. Through density-functional theory calculations, the formation and stability of the inorganic oxide carrier, the mechanisms of the hydrolysis reaction of the activated platinum compound, and its binding mechanism with DNA bases can be studied. The higher the oxidation state of Pt (II to IV), the more electrons transfer from the magnesia-gold composite material to the platinum compound.

Direct preparation of silver nanoclusters is of great significance for their applications. In this work, by selecting sodium cyanoborohydride as a weak reducing agent to control the kinetics of the reduction reaction, we successfully prepared silver nanoclusters protected by thiol-containing ligands, including mercaptosuccinic acid, cysteine, and glutathione. Based on the silver nanoclusters protected by mercaptosuccinic acid, silver-gold alloy nanoclusters were obtained through a gold doping reaction.

Gatifloxacin (GAT), an antibiotic belonging to the fluoroquinolone (FQ) class, is a toxicant that may contaminate food products. In this study, a method of ultrasensitive immunochromatographic detection of GAT was developed for the first time. An indirect format of the lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) was performed.

A novel detection technique is introduced that offers sensitive and reliable ochratoxin A (OTA) detection. The method leverages the etching of gold nanorods (AuNRs) stabilized by hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) using the oxidized form of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethyl benzidine sulfate (TMB), creating a susceptible multicolor visual detection system for OTA. The visual detection is enabled by Mg-assisted DNAzyme catalysis combined with the catalytic hairpin assembly (CHA) signal amplification strategy.

In this study, we introduce an synthesis technique for incorporating gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) into a magnetic nanocomposite made of glucosamine and alginate (GluN/Alg) ionotropic gelation. GluN acted as a reducing agent for gold ions, leading to the formation of AuNPs which embedded in the nanocomposite FeO@GluN/Alg. Analytical techniques confirmed the crystallite structure of the nanocomposite AuNPs/FeO@GluN/Alg, which had an average size of 30-40 nm.
