We report on spectral phase retrieval of 50 MHz, 374 fs optical pulses at 1560 nm with 28 aJ coupled pulse energy by measuring two modified interferometric field autocorrelation traces using a 5-cm-long periodically poled lithium niobate waveguide. The corresponding sensitivity is 1.1x10(-7) mW(2), improving on the previous record by about 20 times. The same data traces can also be used to retrieve the power spectrum, given that the ratio of powers at two specific wavelengths is known.

We provide a technical description and experimental results of the practical development and offline testing of an innovative, closed-loop, adaptive mirror system capable of making rapid, precise and ultra-stable changes in the size and shape of reflected X-ray beams generated at synchrotron light and free-electron laser facilities. The optical surface of a piezoelectric bimorph deformable mirror is continuously monitored at 20 kHz by an array of interferometric sensors. This matrix of height data is autonomously converted into voltage commands that are sent at 1 Hz to the piezo actuators to modify the shape of the mirror optical surface.

This study presents the development of stannous chloride (SnCl)-modified glass substrates for biomolecule immobilization and their application in fabricating sensor chips for label-free interferometric biosensors. The glass modification process was optimized, identifying a 5% SnCl concentration, a 45 min reaction time, and a 150 °C drying temperature as conditions for efficient protein immobilization. Based on the SnCl-modified glass substrates and label-free spectral-phase interferometry, a biosensor was developed for the detection of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1)-a highly toxic and carcinogenic contaminant in agricultural products.

Chirality is a vital property across various domains, especially for biological activity. Herein, an enzyme-free sensing platform for monosaccharide enantiomer identification was developed by utilizing the Fabry-Pérot interferometer feature of TiO nanotube arrays modified with enantioselective metal-organic framework and glucose oxidase-mimicking Au NPs. In this design, optical property is monitored by reflective interferometric Fourier transform spectroscopy (RIFTS), a highly sensitive technique for detecting changes in the average refractive index within nanotubular structures.

Here, we report a rapid and accurate optical method for detecting cells from liquid samples in a label-free manner. The working principle of the method is based on the interference of parts of a conical laser beam, coming from a single-mode optical fiber directly, and reflected from a flat glass surface. The glass is functionalized by antibodies against the cells to be detected from the liquid sample.

Aiming at the characteristics that the signal noise ratio (SNR) gradually decreases from the near to far range of the swath, an adaptive phase filtering algorithm based on Goldstein filtering and combined with multiple quality-guided graphs was proposed. Firstly, the components used to determine the filtering parameters were obtained through residue density, pseudo-coherence coefficient and pseudo-SNR, the three quality-guided graphs. Then, the filter parameters were calculated by weighting the three components.
