A 24 W liquid-cooled CW 3 microm fiber laser with a multimode-core Er-doped ZBLAN fiber has been developed. The output power of 24 W and an optical-to-optical efficiency of 14.5% (with respect to incident pump power) were obtained with 975 nm diode pumping. Efficient cooling was implemented by a combination of fluid cooling over the entire length of the fiber and conductive cooling at both end faces of the fiber. Consequently, stable high-power operation was demonstrated. To our knowledge, this is the highest output power obtained by a 3 microm fiber laser. Furthermore, the high power can be further scaled up, since the output power in the present work is limited only by the available pump power.

Introduction: Laser ablation using a 980-nm wavelength diode laser, which is a new-generation laser, for recurrent bladder cancer is known to have a lower incidence of complications and recurrence than conventional transurethral resection of bladder tumor surgery. This is the first study to report the use of 980-nm diode laser ablation for recurrent non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer in Japan.
Case Presentation: A 73-year-old man underwent transurethral laser ablation for the treatment of recurrent non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer.

In this paper, we demonstrated a novel bidirectional high-speed transmission system integrating a free-space optical (FSO) communication with a 5G wireless link, utilizing a high-power erbium-doped fibre amplifier (EDFA) for enhanced loss compensation. The system supports downlink rates of 1-Gb/s/4.5-GHz and 10-Gb/s at 24-GHz and 39-GHz, and an uplink rate of 10-Gb/s/28-GHz.

While hypothalamic kisspeptin (KP) neurons play well-established roles in the estrogen-dependent regulation of reproduction, little is known about extrahypothalamic KP-producing (KP) neurons of the lateral septum. As established previously, expression in this region is low and regulated by estrogen receptor- and GABA receptor-dependent mechanisms. Our present experiments on knock-in mice revealed that transgene expression in the LS begins at P33-36 in females and P40-45 in males and is stimulated by estrogen receptor signaling.
