Modular femoral necks in total hip arthroplasty are promoted as giving the surgeon more options during surgery and as being safe. We report a case of fatigue fracture in the modular neck of a femoral implant 3 1/2 years after implantation. The probable design errors leading to product failure are discussed.

Methodology This prospective study involved 102 elderly patients with clinically and radiologically confirmed displaced femoral neck fractures and was conducted in the Department of Trauma and Orthopedic Surgery, Unit-1, Services Hospital, Lahore. Neutron activation dosimetry is the primary method for the determination of the neutron flux or fluence, and in general, it is sensitive to the thermal and resonance energy ranges (radiative capture reactions- reactions) and the fast energy range (threshold reactions). However, there are very few nuclear reactions which are sensitive specifically to neutrons in the intermediate-epithermal-energy region. This energy region, along with the fast energy range, will become particularly important in the development and deployment of new reactor technologies (Generation IV reactors and Small Modular Reactors-SMRs), which are currently being championed as technologies enabling a meaningful contribution to decarbonization and the fight against climate change, as well as nuclear fusion.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to present the long-term functional swallowing outcomes of various surgical approaches to oral tongue/floor of mouth squamous cell carcinoma (OTFOMSCC) according to a modular and compartment-based concept previously described elsewhere.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on patients undergoing surgery for OTFOMSCC from January 2017 to April 2023 in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at the Hospital of Bolzano. Functional swallowing outcomes and quality of life (QoL) were assessed through the administration of a scale and questionnaires between 6 months and 1 year postoperatively or after the end of adjuvant therapy, stratifying the results according to the surgical technique used.
