Introduction: We present a case of ectopic intrathoracic multinodular goiter and correlate the magnetic resonance imaging appearance with the histological findings.
Case Presentation: A 72-year-old man was referred to our institute with a two month history of cough. The chest radiograph showed a mass located in the mediastinum. A chest computed tomography scan, showed an enhancing mass at the right side of the middle mediastinum where magnetic resonance images, demonstrated a multicystic mass. The mass was excised through a right lateral thoracotomy and histologically it proved to be an ectopic multinodular goiter.
Conclusions: Although ectopic intrathoracic multinodular goiter is a rare entity, it should be considered in the differential diagnosis of mediastinal masses. The preoperative diagnosis is important as, unlike substernal goiter which is surgically approached through the neck, the ectopic thyroid is treated by thoracotomy.
Background: Intrathoracic kidney (ITK) is a rare congenital disease, with only about 40 pediatric cases reported worldwide to date. ITK associated with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is even rarer, and we report a case of an infant with ITK combined with a giant CDH.
Case Description And Management: A six-month-old male infant was hospitalized due to "vomiting for 4 days".
Intrathoracic ectopic kidney is an extremely rare congenital defect that is frequently identified by accident because it is asymptomatic. Even more unusual is its link to pulmonary sequestration alone. This case report describes the clinical presentation of a 7-month-old child with a history of recurrent respiratory distress and chest infections since birth, who had shortness of breath, failure to thrive, and delayed developmental milestones.
Rationale: Intravenous catheter placement in the healthy upper extremity is preferred for chemotherapy in patients with breast cancer. Common venous accesses are peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) and totally implantable intravenous port catheters (TIVPs). In this case, a patient with breast cancer had a history of infusion port placement through the left internal jugular vein, with ipsilateral innominate vein stenosis after placement.
A congenital defect in the diaphragm, known as a Bochdalek hernia (BH), is a condition that allows herniation of the abdominal viscera into the thorax. BH is the most common type of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) and is typically detected on the left side. An ectopic kidney is a rare condition.
A 5-year-old spayed female Maltese was referred due to a suspected diaphragmatic hernia. Radiography revealed a soft tissue mass in the right caudal thorax with loss of diaphragm cupola dome-shape. A diaphragmatic hernia was considered, but surgical exploration revealed an intact diaphragm and unremarkable liver lobes.
