Introduction: The link between nutritional status and either optic or peripheral neuropathies is well established with tobacco, ethanol, deficiencies in thiamine, vitamin A, B12, B3 and B6 and protein-energy malnutrition all being causative.

Case Presentation: We describe the case of a 32-year-old Afro-Caribbean of Jamaican origin presenting with blurred vision and a painful burning sensation in his feet. The clinical features were consistent with optic and peripheral neuropathy.

Conclusions: The patient followed a strict vegan diet and consumed no animal products. A review of the literature highlights similarities between this case and Strachan's syndrome, a combination of optic and peripheral neuropathy and cutaneous excoriation, providing further evidence for the association between this clinical presentation, dietary deficiency and, as recently postulated, previous residence in a tropical or sub-tropical climate.

Ewing sarcoma family tumors (ESFT) pose diagnostic challenges, which largely depend on the primary site of involvement and tumor stage. Despite advancements in treatment, metastatic ESFTs remain associated with poor outcomes. This case describes a 21-year-old woman who, in July 2022, presented with a left breast mass identified through ultrasound and CT scan, along with abdominal distention.

Purpose: To evaluate changes in the retinal microvasculature using widefield swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA) following three anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) loading injections for diabetic macular edema (DME).

Methods: Thirty-four treatment-naïve patients with DME received an initial three loading injections, followed by injections on an as-needed basis. Macular ischemia was evaluated based on the foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area, perfusion density, and vessel density on a 3 × 3-mm SS-OCTA image.

Background: The retina, an integral part of the central nervous system, can exhibit protein accumulation (Aβ and pTau) associated with neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease (AD). Biochemical analysis revealed the existence of a distinct primary retinal tauopathy (PReT), differing from AD and primary age-related tauopathy (PART) brain lysates, suggesting it as a potential precursor for AD tauopathy with possible diagnostic value. However, it remains unclear whether retinal pTau pathology can spread from the eye into the brain.

Background: Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were obtained from patients across different stages of Parkinson's disease (PD) progression and stimulated ex vivo to develop biomarkers for predicting PD progression.

Method: PBMCs obtained at one time-point from patients with moderate stage PD (>5 years after diagnosis) (n = 30), early stage PD (<5 years after diagnosis) (n = 27), prodromal PD (rapid-eye-movement sleep behavior disorder patients) (n = 14), and healthy controls (HCs) (n = 9) were isolated from whole blood and cryopreserved. Samples were thawed, then pan-monocytes and T-cell populations were isolated from PBMCs and subjected to treatment with vehicle or IFN-γ.
