Background: Bacterial contamination of outlet water from dental unit waterlines (DUWLs) may lead to healthcare-associated infection. The aim of this study was to evaluate the contamination of DUWLs from new dental chairs before and after their initial shock disinfection with ICX Renew® and to determine the efficacy of this method of shock disinfection.

Methods: The microbiological quality of water samples obtained from the DUWLs of 17 new dental chairs installed at the University Hospital of Nancy, France, was assessed.

Surface activity, kinetics, thermodynamics and comparative study of adsorption of selected cationic and anionic dyes onto HPO-functionalized bagasse from aqueous stream.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

October 2023

The discharge of dyes into the water body creates toxicity to aquatic organisms because of their aromatic structure and difficult degradation. So, the treatment of dye-contaminated wastewater is required before releasing it. In the present study, thermally treated (600 °C) and HPO (55%)-functionalized bagasse, henceforth called thermochemically activated bagasse (TCAB), was synthesized as potential adsorbent for the effective removal of selected cationic and anionic dyes from their aqueous stream.

Introduction: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) remains a public health threat and the main route of transmission is from mother to child (MTCT). Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) treatment can reduce MTCT of HBV although the optimal timing to attain undetectable HBV DNA concentrations at delivery is unknown. This protocol describes the procedures following early initiation of maternal TDF prior to 20 weeks gestation to determine efficacy, safety and feasibility of this approach in a limited-resource setting.

Background: Process improvement stresses the importance of engaging frontline staff in implementing new processes and methods. Yet questions remain on how to incorporate these activities into the workday of hospital staff or how to create and maintain its commitment. In a 15-month American Organization of Nurse Executives collaborative involving frontline medical/surgical staff from 67 hospitals, Transforming Care at the Bedside (TCAB) was evaluated to assess whether participating units successfully implemented recommended change processes, engaged staff, implemented innovations, and generated support from hospital leadership and staff.

Thyroid hormones (TH) regulate biological processes implicated in neurodevelopmental disorders and can be altered with environmental exposures. Developmental exposure to the dioxin-like compound, 3,3',4,4'-tetrachloroazobenzene (TCAB), induced a dose response deficit in serum T4 levels with no change in 3,5,3'- triiodothyronine or thyroid stimulating hormone. Female Sprague-Dawley rats were orally gavaged (corn oil, 0.
