Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease that develops in the context of enhanced serum lipid levels. Nowadays, many studies focus on the modulation of inflammatory responses to reduce atherosclerosis. The most powerful strategy to achieve this is vaccination. In several immune diseases vaccination is shown to be very effective, resulting in a drastic decline in the incidence of the disease. But is vaccination also realistic in atherosclerosis? In this article, several approaches to vaccinate against atherosclerosis are described. Vaccination (based on protein or DNA) against bioactive molecules and disease-related proteins successfully reduces experimental atherosclerosis. In addition, passive immunization with antibodies against atherosclerosis-specific antigens and tolerance induction, in which antigen-specific regulatory T cells are elicited, are described. In the near future, we expect an increased interest in vaccination against atherosclerosis and, maybe, the myth may become reality when the first clinical trials are performed.

Eggs, which are often considered a complete food, have recently been scrutinized by the media as a potential cause of cardiovascular disease. However, the media hasn't shown the same enthusiasm for processed foods high in fructose, the consumption of refined cooking oil, seed oils, and carbohydrate-rich meals, the connection between these factors and metabolic diseases, or the potential long-term impacts on population comorbidities, as they have for criticizing egg yolks as a cause for cardiovascular disease in recent times. This review investigates the relationship between eggs and lipid levels, glucose levels, atherosclerosis, and antioxidant properties, as well as comparing them to cholesterol-free egg controls.

Therapy with glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP1) receptor agonists has raised great interest for its beneficial cardiovascular effects in preventing atherosclerosis and heart failure-related outcomes. However, while evidence about atherosclerosis consistently suggests a cardioprotective potential with class effect, controversies remain on its impact on heart failure. GLP1 receptor agonists appear to prevent hospitalization for new-onset heart failure and reduce symptoms in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (as demonstrated by the recent STEP-HFpEF Trial).

Background: This is a narrative review that aims to highlight key advancements that led to the current state of lower extremity bypass surgery. It focuses on key contributors during the last century who have driven the standardization of surgical treatment of peripheral arterial occlusive disease.
Methods: A narrative review was conducted utilizing available resources in the scientific and historical literature to track landmark achievements in the development of modern lower extremity bypass surgery for occlusive disease, focusing primarily on the last century of advancement.
The purpose of this review is to revisit in detail the arguments supporting or disproving the hypothesis that oxidized low-density lipoprotein (LDL) plays a key role in atherosclerotic lesion development. The detection of oxidized LDL in vivo was extremely important for confirming its key role in atherogenesis. Indirect evidence of its existence included the presence of autoantibodies against malondialdehyde-treated LDL in human blood; however, the affinity of circulating antibodies to another LDL modification, such as desialylated LDL, was an order of magnitude stronger.
