Sharp atomic and ionic line spectra of excimer-laser-induced ablation plasmas of samples in liquids were observed. A new double-pulse technique employing quartz fibers facilitates spectral analysis of samples in liquids in which spectral lines normally are strongly broadened and quenched. The first pulse generates a cavitation bubble on the sample surface, which provides a gaseous environment for optical emission spectroscopy on the ablation plasma induced by a second pulse fired into the bubble.

Hydrophilic coating embolism (HCE) is a rare and underreported complication in neurointerventional practice that can lead to serious medical consequences. Two endovascular procedures were interrupted at our institution after a cloudy liquid content was observed inside the rotating hemostatic valves (RHV) during microcatheter withdrawal. In both cases, the same type of microcatheter (Prowler Select Plus) and RHV (Merit) were being used, and coating dislodgement was suspected.

Objective: Due to the high global prevalence of silicosis and the ongoing challenges in its diagnosis, this pilot study aims to screen biomarkers from routine blood parameters and develop a multi-biomarker model for its early detection.

Methods: A case-control study was conducted to screen biomarkers for the diagnosis of silicosis using LASSO regression, SVM and RF. A sample of 612 subjects (half cases and half controls) were randomly divided into training and test groups in a 2:1 ratio.

Introduction: Extracts from the rhizome of the traditional Chinese medicinal plant (CY) mediate a number of biologic effects that are associated with its content of isoquinoline alkaloids. CY alkaloids have shown analgesic, cardioprotective, and anti-addictive effects in animal models of disease. Since CY alkaloids are available to consumers as dietary supplements we analyzed the content of alkaloids in 14 products including open powders, capsules, and liquid formulations, capturing a majority of the products available online in the US.

Introduction: 7,8-Dihydroxyflavone (7,8-DHF) is a promising translational therapy in several brain injury models, including the neonatal hypoxia-ischemia (HI) model in mice. However, the neuroprotective effect of 7,8-DHF was only observed in female, but not male, neonatal mice with HI brain injury. It is unknown whether HI-induced physiological changes affect brain distribution of 7,8-DHF differently for male versus female mice.
