Due to an increased demand for natural food additives, clove oil was assessed as a natural alternative to chemical disinfectants in produce washing. This study assessed the antimicrobial activity of 5 and 10% (/) clove oil-amended wash liquid (CO) using a zone of inhibition (ZIB) test and determined the time required to completely inactivate pathogenic bacteria using bacterial death curve analysis. A washing experiment was used to evaluate CO's ability to inhibit bacterial growth on inoculated RTE spinach and in the wash water.

Objectives: Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis (S. Enteritidis) is a commonly reported pathogen which adapts to multiple hosts and causes critical disease burden at a global level. Here, we investigated a recently derived epidemic sublineage with multidrug resistance (MDR), which have caused extended time-period and cross-regional gastroenteritis outbreaks and even invasive nontyphoidal Salmonella disease (iNTS) in China.

Background And Aim: Bulevirtide (BLV) leads to beneficial virologic and biochemical responses when given alone to treat hepatitis delta virus (HDV) infection, which causes the most severe form of chronic viral hepatitis. We evaluated 48 weeks of BLV monotherapy, BLV + tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) and BLV + pegylated interferon alfa-2a (Peg-IFNα-2a), with 24-week follow-up.

Methods: Ninety patients were enrolled into six arms of 15 each (A-F); 60 patients were included in the main randomisation (arms A-D), and 30 patients (arms E-F) were randomised to the extension phase: (A) Peg-IFNα-2a 180 μg once weekly (QW); (B) BLV 2 mg once daily (QD) + Peg-IFNα-2a 180 μg QW; (C) BLV 5 mg QD + Peg-IFNα-2a 180 μg QW; (D) BLV 2 mg QD; (E) BLV 10 mg QD + Peg-IFNα-2a 180 μg QW and (F) BLV 10 mg (5 mg twice daily) + TDF QD.

Flexible Tail of Antimicrobial Peptide PGLa Facilitates Water Pore Formation in Membranes.

PGLa, an antimicrobial peptide (AMP), primarily exerts its antibacterial effects by disrupting bacterial cell membrane integrity. Previous theoretical studies mainly focused on the binding mechanism of PGLa with membranes, while the mechanism of water pore formation induced by PGLa peptides, especially the role of structural flexibility in the process, remains unclear. In this study, using all-atom simulations, we investigated the entire process of membrane deformation caused by the interaction of PGLa with an anionic cell membrane composed of dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine (DMPC) and dimyristoylphosphatidylglycerol (DMPG).
