The generalized analytical expression for the propagation of flat-topped multi-Gaussian beams through a misaligned apertured ABCD optical system is derived. Using this analytical expression, the propagation characteristics of flat-topped multi-Gaussian beams through a spatial filter are investigated. The analytical formula of the electric field distribution in the focal plane is also derived for revealing the effects of the misalignment parameters clearly. It is found that different misalignment parameters have different influences on the electric field distributions of the beam focus spot and the output beam characteristics. The intensity distribution of the beam is mainly determined by the misalignment matrix element E, and the phase distribution is affected by the misalignment matrix elements G and E.

Pre-Launch Spectral Calibration of the Absorbed Aerosol Sensor.

Spectral calibration consists of the calibration of wavelengths and the measurement of the instrument's spectral response function (SRF). Unlike conventional slits, the absorbed aerosol sensors (AAS) are used as a slit homogenizer, in which the SRF is not a conventional Gaussian curve. To be more precise, the SRF is the convolution of the slit function of the spectrometer, the line spread function of the optical system, and the detector response function.

A laser altimeter using code modulation techniques receives a backscattered pulse wider than the transmitted rectangular pulse when scanning a rough or sloped target surface. This leads to degrading the ranging performance in terms of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and detection probability. Unlike the pulsed techniques, little work has focused on the pulse broadening effect of the code modulation techniques.

Theoretically, we have investigated the propagation of fully and partially coherent flat-topped multi-Gaussian beams through classical and logarithmic axicons. The stationary phase method applied to the Fresnel diffraction integral for intensity distribution has led to applicable relationships. The influences of axicon base angle, beam width, beam flatness, and coherence length with intensity distribution were studied.

We introduce a new kind of partially coherent source whose cross-spectral density (CSD) function is described as the incoherent superposition of elliptical twisted Gaussian Schell-model sources with different beam widths and transverse coherence widths, named twisted elliptical multi-Gaussian Schell-model (TEMGSM) beams. Analytical expression for the CSD function propagating through a paraxial ABCD optical system is derived with the help of the generalized Collins formula. Our results show that the TEMGSM beam is capable of generating a flat-topped elliptical beam profile in the far field, and the beam spot during propagation exhibits clockwise/anti-clockwise rotation with respect to its propagation axis.

A new kind of partially coherent beam with non-conventional correlation function named generalized multi-Gaussian correlated Schell-model (GMGCSM) beam is proposed. The GMGCSM beam of the first or second kind is capable of producing dark hollow or flat-topped beam profile in the focal plane (or in the far field). Furthermore, we carry out experimental generation of a GMGCSM beam of the first or second kind, and measure its focused intensity.
