We explore the possibility of extending the stabilizing transformations approach [J. J. Crofts and R. L. Davidchack, SIAM J. Sci. Comput. (USA) 28, 1275 (2006)]. to the problem of locating large numbers of unstable periodic orbits in high-dimensional flows, in particular those that result from spatial discretization of partial differential equations. The approach has been shown to be highly efficient when detecting large sets of periodic orbits in low-dimensional maps. Extension to low-dimensional flows has been achieved by the use of an appropriate Poincare surface of section [D. Pingel, P. Schmelcher, and F. K. Diakonos, Phys. Rep. 400, 67 (2004)]. For the case of high-dimensional flows, we show that it is more efficient to apply stabilizing transformations directly to the flows without the use of the Poincare surface of section. We use the proposed approach to find many unstable periodic orbits in the model example of a chaotic spatially extended system-the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation. The performance of the proposed method is compared against other methods such as Newton-Armijo and Levenberg-Marquardt algorithms. In the latter case, we also argue that the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm, or any other optimization-based approach, is more efficient and simpler in implementation when applied directly to the detection of periodic orbits in high-dimensional flows without the use of the Poincare surface of section or other additional constraints.

Purpose: This work aims at investigating, via in-silico evaluations, the noise properties of an innovative scanning geometry in cone-beam CT (CBCT): eCT. Complexing medications with cyclodextrins can enhance their solubility and stability. In this study, we investigated the host-guest complexation between Tetrahydrocurcumin (THC) and Hydroxypropyl-β-Cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) using density functional theory (DFT) at the B3LYP-D3/TPZ level of theory in two possible orientations. To determine the reactive sites in both complexes for electrophilic and nucleophilic attacks, we calculated and interpreted the binding energy, HOMO and LUMO orbitals, global chemical reactivity descriptors, natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis, and Fukui indices.

In this paper, we give a class of one-dimensional discrete dynamical systems with state space N+. This class of systems is defined by two parameters: one of them sets the number of nearest neighbors that determine the rule of evolution, and the other parameter determines a segment of natural numbers Λ={1,2,…,b}. Objective: To investigate the incidence and etiology of maxillofacial trauma (MFT) and its association with traumatic brain injury (TBI).
Background: Anecdotal evidence suggests that there is an association between MFT and TBI and that higher incidences of TBI are associated with frontal bone and mid-facial fractures. Despite the large volume of maxillofacial facial fractures treated in the authors' unit, no study has been undertaken to establish the relationship between TBI and maxillofacial fractures.

External rigid distraction is an established method for achieving subcranial Le Fort III advancement in severe syndromic craniosynostosis. Craniofacial surgeons commonly use halo-type devices for these corrections, as they allow for multiple vectors of pull and facilitate larger midfacial advancements. Although most complications related to their use involve pin displacement or infection, rare complications such as skull fractures have been reported.
