With several instrument configurations available from various manufacturers, liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) technology is currently intensively studied for comprehensive drug screen and confirmation. An LC-MS/MS database, including 780 drug and toxic compounds, has been constructed, featuring information-rich MS/MS spectra derived from a novel fragmentation approach incorporating voltage ramping and broadened mass window for activation. The resulting spectra are rich in high- and low-mass fragment ions, highly effective for matching and proven reproducible over a 6 month test period. Coupled to effective sample preparation protocols, the database-searching process greatly improved the identification of drugs in postmortem specimens by the LC-electrospray ionization (ESI)-MS/MS technology. This method has significantly improved the efficiency of our routine laboratory operation that was based on a two-step [fluorescence polarization immunoassay (FPIA) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS)] approach in the past.

January 2025

State Key Laboratory for Conservation and Utilization of Bio-Resources in Yunnan, School of Agriculture, Yunnan University, Kunming 650540, China; Southwest United Graduate School,Kunming 650500, China. Electronic address:

Potato is the world's most important nongrain crop. Here, we report that 29 genomes from Petota and Etuberosum sections were de novo assembled, and that 248 accessions of wild potatoes, landraces and modern cultivars were re-sequenced at > 25× depth to assess genetic diversity within the Petota section. Subsequently, a graph-based pangenome was constructed by using DM8.

January 2025

Beijing Key Laboratory for Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases in Livestock and Poultry, In-Stitute of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, Beijing 100097, China.

Canine Parvovirus (CPV) is a highly contagious virus that causes severe hemorrhagic enteritis and myocarditis, posing a major threat to the life and health of dogs. The molecular mechanism by which VP2, the major capsid protein of CPV, infects host cells and utilizes host cell proteins for self-replication remains poorly understood. In this study, 140 host proteins specifically binding to CPV VP2 protein were identified by immunoprecipitation combined with liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).

Tear metabolomics reveals novel potential biomarkers in epithelial herpes simplex keratitis.

BMC Ophthalmol

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology, Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, Guangdong Provincial Clinical Research Center for Ocular Diseases, Guangzhou, 510060, China.

Background: Herpes simplex keratitis (HSK) is a recurrent inflammatory disease of cornea primarily initiated by type I herpes simplex virus infection of corneal epithelium. However, early diagnosis of HSK remains challenging due to the lack of specific biomarkers. This study aims to identify biomarkers for HSK through tear metabolomics analysis between HSK and healthy individuals.

Endoplasmic reticulum stress-MMRN1 positive feedback contributes to cisplatin resistance in small cell lung cancer.

J Thorac Dis

December 2024

Department of Thoracic Surgery, Sichuan Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Sichuan Cancer Hospital & Institute, Sichuan Cancer Center, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, China.

Background: Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) accounts for 15% of all lung cancers and presents early metastasis and poor prognosis. Chemotherapy with cisplatin (CDDP) remains one of the standards of care in first-line treatment. However, the emergence of acquired resistance to CDDP causes disease progression and cancer recurrence.

Multi-omics dataset of individual variations in growth performance of large yellow croaker.

Sci Data

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Marine and Estuarine Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture, East China Sea Fisheries Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, Shanghai, 200090, China.

Large yellow croaker (Larimichthys crocea) is a highly economically important marine fish species in China. However, substantial individual variations in growth performance have emerged as a limiting factor for the sustainable development of the large yellow croaker industry. Gut microbiota plays a crucial role in fish growth and development by regulating metabolic processes.
