: Nutrimetabolomics may reveal novel insights into early metabolic alterations and the role of dietary exposures on prostate cancer (PCa) risk. We aimed to prospectively investigate the associations between plasma metabolite concentrations and PCa risk, including clinically relevant tumor subtypes. : We used a targeted and large-scale metabolomics approach to analyze plasma samples of 851 matched PCa case-control pairs from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) cohort.

Acidemia arises primarily from the accumulation of carbon dioxide or the loss of bicarbonate, leading to a pH decrease within the body, which can be fatal if severe and not promptly addressed. Metabolic acidemia occurs due to a loss of bicarbonate and can manifest through direct losses of bicarbonate via renal or gastrointestinal routes, or through the accumulation of anions such as lactic acid or ketoacids, leading to an anion gap metabolic acidosis. Many common etiologies for lactic acid and ketoacid generation exist, including medication-induced causes.

Background: The case fatality rate of untreated dengue is 20%; it can be reduced to less than 1% with optimal management. The leading causes of death in dengue patients are shock, bleeding, and acute liver injury. We describe the clinical features of patients who died of dengue and discuss the therapeutic challenges and pitfalls of complicated dengue.
