Background: A 20-year-old female patient with chronic hepatitis C virus infection and end-stage renal disease due to systemic lupus erythematosus was admitted to hospital with fever, pain in the abdomen, seizures and an alteration of consciousness. The patient was on maintenance dialysis and was receiving pegylated interferon monotherapy for her chronic hepatitis C virus infection.
Investigations: Physical examination, laboratory tests including complete blood count and measurement of serum electrolyte levels, CT scans of the head and abdomen, MRI of the brain, microscopic examination of the cerebrospinal fluid, chest X-ray, echocardiography and measurement of C3 complement and anti-double-stranded DNA antibody levels.
Diagnosis: Activation of systemic lupus erythematosus with cerebritis following pegylated interferon therapy.
Management: Intravenous fluid, intermittent oxygen, intravenous diphenylhydantoin, intravenous pulse methylprednisolone 500 mg for 3 days followed by 40 mg per day of oral prednisolone, and temporary withdrawal of pegylated interferon.

Background And Aim: Bulevirtide (BLV) leads to beneficial virologic and biochemical responses when given alone to treat hepatitis delta virus (HDV) infection, which causes the most severe form of chronic viral hepatitis. We evaluated 48 weeks of BLV monotherapy, BLV + tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) and BLV + pegylated interferon alfa-2a (Peg-IFNα-2a), with 24-week follow-up.
Methods: Ninety patients were enrolled into six arms of 15 each (A-F); 60 patients were included in the main randomisation (arms A-D), and 30 patients (arms E-F) were randomised to the extension phase: (A) Peg-IFNα-2a 180 μg once weekly (QW); (B) BLV 2 mg once daily (QD) + Peg-IFNα-2a 180 μg QW; (C) BLV 5 mg QD + Peg-IFNα-2a 180 μg QW; (D) BLV 2 mg QD; (E) BLV 10 mg QD + Peg-IFNα-2a 180 μg QW and (F) BLV 10 mg (5 mg twice daily) + TDF QD.

Introduction: The minority of the chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients received polyethylene glycol interferon (PEG-IFN) combined with nucleotide analogs (NAs) can obtain hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) clearance.
Methods: In order to find out the advantaged population, we retrospectively collected 122 CHB patients treated with NAs alone or NAs plus PEG-IFN for 48 weeks, who were admitted to Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital from 2019 to 2024.
Results: We found HBsAg clearance rate in NAs plus PEG-IFN group was 40.

Objectives: To assess the efficacy and safety of locally manufactured generic sofosbuvir-based direct-acting antivirals in the treatment of Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infected patients on maintenance hemodialysis.
Patients And Methods: We have conducted a retrospective multicenter study including patients on maintenance hemodialysis, treated with sofosbuvir-based regimens between 01/01/2017 and 09/30/2021. Patients were treated for 12 or 24 weeks, with sofosbuvir 400 mg + ledipasvir 90 mg 3 times/week, or sofosbuvir 3 times/week + daclatasvir 60 mg/d, or sofosbuvir + daclatasvir in coformulation, 3 times/week.
