Italian national guidelines recommend to Regions the implementation of organised screening programmes for cervical cancer. As in previous years since 1998, we collected from Italian organised cervical screening programmes aggregated tables of data in order to centrally compute process indicators. Data on women invited during 2007 and screened up to April 2008 were considered. In 2007, the target population of Italian organised screening programmes included 11,872,810 women, corresponding to 71.8% of Italian women aged 25-64 years. Uptake of invitation was 39.8%, with a clear North-South decreasing trend. It should, however, be considered that many women are screened outside the organised programmes. Of the women screened, 5.0% were referred for repeat cytology and 60.4 % of them complied; 2.4% of screened women were referred to colposcopy. Compliance with colposcopy referral was 82.3% among women referred because of ASCUS or more severe cytology and 89.5% among those referred because of HSIL or more severe cytology. The positive predictive value (PPV) of referral because of ASCUS or more severe cytology for CIN2 or more severe histology was 16.0%. The unadjusted detection rate of CIN2 or more severe histology was 2.9 per 1,000 screened women (3.1 standardised on the Italian population, truncated 25-64).

Background: Streptococcal Toxic Shock Syndrome (STSS) is a life-threatening condition caused by bacterial toxins. The STSS triad encompasses high fever, hypotensive shock, and a "sunburn-like" rash with desquamation. STSS, like Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS), is a rare complication of streptococcal infec-tions caused by Group A Streptococcus (GAS), Streptococcal pyogenes (S.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs), as a class of noncoding RNA molecules with a circular structure exhibit high stability and spatiotemporal-specific expression, making them ideal cancer biomarkers for liquid biopsy. Herein, a new photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensor for a highly sensitive circRNA assay in the whole blood of lung cancer patients was designed based on CRISPR/Cas13a-programmed Cu nanoclusters (Cu NCs) and a -scheme covalent organic framework/silver sulfide (T-COF/AgS) composite. This -scheme T-COF/AgS composite accelerates electron transfer and produces an excellent initial photocurrent.

Despite being designated as "noncarcinogenic" human papillomavirus (HPV) types, mono-infection with HPV6 or HPV11 has been found in squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) at specific sites, including the larynx, penis, anus, and rarely, the lower female genital tract. The association between clinicopathologic features, viral status, and the carcinogenic mechanisms related to these low-risk HPVs remains unclear. The current study characterizes a series of low-risk HPV6 and HPV11-associated SCCs of the uterine cervix (6 cases) and vulva (2 cases).

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), such as pembrolizumab, have revolutionized cancer therapy but can lead to severe immune-related adverse events (irAEs). We present a case of fulminant type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and mesenteric ischemia in a 78-year-old woman with recurrent stage IIIC1 cervical cancer treated with pembrolizumab. Thirty-four days after initiating a pembrolizumab-containing regimen, she presented with vomiting, severe hyperglycemia, metabolic acidosis, and strongly positive urine ketones.

Background: This video article describes the use of bone-anchored prostheses for patients with transtibial amputations, most often resulting from trauma, infection, or dysvascular disease. Large studies have shown that about half of all patients with a socket-suspended artificial limb experience limited mobility and limited prosthesis use because of socket-related problems. These problems occur at the socket-residual limb interface as a result of a painful and unstable connection, leading to an asymmetrical gait and subsequent pelvic and back pain.
