Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) is flavivirus transmitted to the host via tick saliva which contains various molecules with biological impacts. One of such molecules is Iristatin, a cysteine protease inhibitor from Ixodes ricinus that has been shown to have immunomodulatory properties. To characterize Iristatin in the relation to TBEV, we investigate whether this tick inhibitor has any capacity to influence TBEV infection.

Introduction: Topical 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), 5% or 4% cream, is recommended among first-line treatments for actinic keratosis (AK). Local skin reactions (LSRs) are an expected and transient response to treatment with 5-FU but can lead to treatment discontinuation when severe. This analysis aimed to investigate whether the severity of LSRs during the treatment was associated with lesion clearance assessed 4 weeks after completing treatment.

Background: Occupational exposure to solar ultraviolet (UV) is known to cause malignant melanoma (MM) and non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC). However, knowledge of the causal associations has developed erratically.
Aims: This review aims to identify when it was accepted that workplace solar UV exposure could cause skin cancer and when it was recognized that there was a risk for outdoor workers in Britain, identifying the steps employers should have taken to protect their workers.
Following a request from the European Commission, EFSA was asked to deliver a scientific opinion on the safety and efficacy of an essential oil from the aerial parts of × L. (peppermint oil) when used as a sensory additive in feed and in water for drinking for all animal species. The EFSA Panel on Additives and Products or Substances used in Animal Feed (FEEDAP) concluded that that peppermint oil is safe for all animal species at the maximum use level of 12 mg/kg complete feed.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFollowing a request from the European Commission, the European Food Safety Authority was asked to deliver a scientific opinion on the proposed modification of the terms of the authorisation of canthaxanthin, regarding the addition of a new production route, by the yeast CBS 146148. The additive is already authorised as sensory feed additive for use in feed for chickens for fattening, minor poultry species for fattening, laying poultry, poultry reared for laying, ornamental fish, ornamental birds and ornamental breeder hens. The Panel on Additives and Products or Substances used in Animal Feed (FEEDAP) concludes that canthaxanthin produced with CBS 146148 is considered safe for the target species, the consumer and the environment under the current authorised conditions of use.
