The attenuation of incoherent infrared radiation for wavelengths from 6 to 20 microm was investigated for hollow sapphire and silica waveguides suitable for applications in spectroscopy and thermometry. A low-attenuation region was exhibited between 9.6 and 17.2 microm for hollow sapphire fibers and between 7.25 and 9.5 microm for hollow silica fibers as a result of the cladding index of refraction dipping below that of the air core (n approximately 1). Losses have been characterized as a function of fiber diameter, launch conditions, and waveguide bend radius for cladding regions of both n > 1 and n < 1. In addition, the remote infrared sensing capability of the hollow waveguides was demonstrated by the detection of CO(2) in N(2) by utilizing hollow sapphire fibers capped with ZnSe windows.

The discharge of wastewater containing Congo red (CR) poses a significant threat to aquatic ecosystems and human health, underscoring the urgent need for effective removal methods. In this study, we have developed a novel strategy for efficient removing CR, utilizing the synthesized magnetic hollow Zn/Co zeolitic imidazolate framework composite (MH-ZIF). Comprehensive characterization of MH-ZIF and comparison with contrasting materials were conducted.

Sublimation methods utilizing the surface properties of substrates can address the challenge of controlling hollow morphologies in rod crystals. Spherulites were formed on the hydrophilic surface of the (0001) planes of α-quartz and sapphire substrates by sublimation of 1,2-bis(3,5-dimethyl-2-thienyl)perfluorocyclopentene (1a). Various types of hollow morphologies, distinguished by the size and shape of their cross sections and by the presence or absence of branching structures, were formed separately on α-quartz and sapphire substrates.

This study focuses on the development of nanofiltration (NF) membranes with enhanced antifouling properties, high flux, and low molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) for the separation of lignin from paper mill wastewater. Using a sol-gel method by dip-coating, alumina hollow fiber membranes were fabricated with an interlayer to reduce surface roughness. The interlayer improved mechanical properties, effectively covering the surface irregularities and allowing for the subsequent application of a thinner functional layer.

Membrane distillation (MD) is gaining increasing recognition within membrane-based processes for palm oil mill effluent (POME) treatment. This study aims to alter the physicochemical characteristics of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes through the incorporation of bentonite (B) at varying weight concentrations (ranging from 0.25 wt% to 1.
