Immunoinformatics-driven design and computational analysis of a multiepitope vaccine targeting uropathogenic .

In Silico Pharmacol

December 2024

Laboratory of Chemoinformatics, Infochemistry Scientific Center, ITMO University, Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation.

Unlabelled: Urinary tract infections (UTIs), largely caused by uropathogenic (UPEC), are increasingly resistant to antibiotics and frequently recur. Using immunoinformatics, we designed a multiepitope peptide vaccine targeting UPEC virulence factors, including iron acquisition systems and adhesins. The construct features 12 cytotoxic T lymphocyte epitopes, six helper T lymphocyte epitopes, and six B-cell epitopes, and isoptimized for high antigenicity, immunogenicity, nontoxic, and low allergenic potential.

Background: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) presents a serious threat to health, highlighting the urgent need for more effective antimicrobial agents with innovative mechanisms of action. Nanotechnology offers promising solutions by enabling the creation of nanoparticles (NPs) with antibacterial properties. This study aimed to explore the antibacterial, anti-biofilm, and anti-virulence effects of eco-friendly synthesized α-Fe₂O₃ nanoparticles (α-Fe₂O₃-NPs) against pathogenic bacteria.

Cefiderocol (FDC), a siderophore-cephalosporin conjugate, is the newest option for treating infection with carbapenem-resistant gram-negative bacteria. We identified a novel mechanism contributing to decreased FDC susceptibility in Klebsiella pneumoniae clinical isolates. The mechanism involves 2 coresident plasmids: pKpQIL, carrying variants of bla carbapenemase gene, and pKPN, carrying the ferric citrate transport (FEC) system.

To analyze the effect of Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) and Black stain (BS) on the microbial community of dental plaque. A total of 136 preschool children aged 3 to 6 years old from 12 kindergartens in Shinan District and Shibei District of Qingdao City were investigated by using a cluster sampling method from April to May 2019. They were divided into two groups based on oral examination: the early childhood caries (ECC) group and the caries-free (CF) group.

Synergistic effects of ozonation pretreatment and trace phosphate on water quality health risk and microbial stability in simulated drinking water distribution systems.

J Hazard Mater

December 2024

Institute of Environmental Research at Greater Bay, Key Laboratory for Water Quality and Conservation of the Pearl River Delta, Ministry of Education, Guangzhou University, Guangzhou 510006, China.

The proliferation and chlorine resistance of pathogenic bacteria in drinking water distribution systems (DWDSs) pose a serious threat to human health. In this study, the synergistic effects of ozonation pretreatment and trace phosphate on water quality health risk and microbial stability were investigated in the small-scale DWDSs simulated by biofilms annular reactors with cast iron coupons. The results indicated that ozonation of drinking water containing trace phosphate was equivalent to increasing microbial carbon and phosphorus sources, further leading to the rapid proliferation of opportunistic pathogens (OPs) in subsequent DWDSs.
