Objective: To compare the severity of throat discomfort in terms of sore throat, dysphagia, and dysphonia caused by LMA-ProSeal (PLMA) and Profile Soft-Seal Cuff (PSSC) in early (2 hour) and late (24 hour) postoperative period after ambulatory gynecologic laparoscopy.

Design: Randomized double-blind controlled trial.

Material And Method: One hundred and thirty eight patients undergoing ambulatory gynecologic laparoscopy in Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital were randomly allocated into two groups. One group was intubated with Profile-Soft-Seal Cuff (PSSC), while the other with ProSeal LMA (PLMA). Four-leveled score of sore throat, dysphagia, dysphonia, nausea, or vomiting symptoms at 2 and 24 hours and 5-leveled satisfaction score to both techniques at 24 hours postoperatively were evaluated.

Results: The patients in the PLMA group had less severe symptoms of sore throat (p = 0.016) and dysphonia (p = 0.003) than those in the PSSC group at 2 hour. No difference was detected for dysphagia, nausea, vomiting, and satisfaction scores at 24 hour postoperatively.

Conclusion: PLMA caused less sore throat and dysphonia in the early postoperative period than PSSC did PLMA can be used as an alternative airway device for anesthesia in ambulatory gynecologic laparoscopy.

Purpose Of Review: Significant inequities persist in hypertension detection and control, with minoritized populations disproportionately experiencing organ damage and premature death due to uncontrolled hypertension. Remote blood pressure monitoring combined with telehealth visits (RBPM) is proving to be an effective strategy for controlling hypertension. Yet there are challenges related to technology adoption, patient engagement and social determinants of health (SDoH), contributing to disparities in patient outcomes.

Background: Abdominal binders are a prominent non-pharmacological intervention aimed at mitigating adverse outcomes following Cesarean delivery (CD), including pain and distress.

Aim: We conducted a meta-analysis to quantitatively evaluate the effects of abdominal binders on women undergoing CD.

Methods: A systematic search was conducted using terms such as "abdominal binder," "clinical trials," and variations of "cesarean" across multiple electronic databases, including PubMed, Google Scholar, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, ClinicalTrials.

Mid-infrared spectroscopy as a real-time diagnostic tool for chronic endometritis: A preliminary study.

December 2024

IVF Unit, Hillel Yaffe Medical Center, Hadera, Israel; Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa 3109601, Israel.

Research Question: Can attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy combined with machine learning techniques be used to develop a real-time diagnostic modality for chronic endometritis by analysing endometrial biopsies obtained during hysteroscopy?

Design: Women undergoing hysteroscopy for infertility assessment were enrolled in this prospective study from January 2020 to March 2021. Endometrial biopsies were evaluated using a spectrophotometer, and subsequently via histopathology, including immunohistochemical staining for the multiple myeloma oncogene-1 (MUM-1). Spectroscopy analyses of the positive and the negative chronic endometritis groups were compared across various cut-offs of MUM-1 positive cells per 10 high-power fields (HPF).

Yoga has been recommended as a complementary management strategy for women with chronic pelvic pain (CPP), but many women lack access to specialized yoga instruction for this indication, and few data are available to evaluate changes in CPP with yoga. This feasibility trial evaluated the acceptability and tolerability of a remotely delivered yoga program for CPP in women and examined data quality and interpretability for measures of pelvic pain intensity and impact with yoga instruction. Ambulatory women with CPP were recruited from northern California in 2020-2022 and randomly assigned to a 2-month program involving twice weekly group classes delivered by videoconference supplemented by individual practice of pelvic yoga techniques versus a control program involving equivalent-time instruction and practice of nonspecific skeletal muscle stretching-strengthening exercises.
