Traditional implant placement involves two surgical stages. Although the second stage is comparatively less aggressive for the patient, postoperative pain and swelling can be further reduced by the use of laser instead of a scalpel. Correct handling of peri-implant soft tissue is of major importance in obtaining adequate gingival tissue attachment around implants. The presence of this keratinized gingiva ensures adequate esthetic results and maintains implant health. We report on three patients with implants in the anterior area who were operated on under the above conditions. Traditionally, the tissue overlying the implants is removed and eliminated. In seeking a way to preserve the attached gingiva, we raised a trapezoidal flap, uncovering each implant and allowing apical repositioning and transpositioning of keratinized gingiva to the buccal side. The results obtained were compared with those from other patients operated on by conventional scalpel. The erbium, chromium:yttrium-scandium-gallium-garnet (Er,Cr:YSGG) laser minimized postoperative pain, and the time to prosthetic rehabilitation was also shortened. The esthetic results were far superior, and no complications were recorded.

Active waveguide Bragg gratings (AWBGs) are promising photonic structures that combine the very efficient reflective properties of a Bragg grating with the power amplification character of rare earths. This combination may lead to a potential monolithic laser under the proper conditions. However, the photonic response of these structures highly depends on the grating design and operating parameters, so modeling its response for their laser performance is a must.

Methods: Fourty-five individuals with post-surgical or post-traumatic scars were randomly divided into three groups: Group A received four fractional Er:YAG laser sessions spaced four weeks apart along with eight sessions of intradermal PRP injections spaced two weeks apart; Group B received four fractional Er:YAG laser sessions spaced four weeks apart along with two sessions of light emitting diode (LED) weekly; and Group C received four fractional Er:YAG laser sessions spaced four weeks apart. Treatment efficacy was evaluated using clinical photographs, Vancouver Scar Scale (VSS), patient satisfaction and histopathology.

Xanthelasma palpebrarum (XP), characterized by soft, yellowish plaque primarily on the eyelids, is often associated with lipid metabolism disorders. XP can cause aesthetic concerns that affect social interactions and requires careful treatment evaluations due to potential complications and associations with systemic conditions. We aimed to assess the efficacy of and recurrence rates with erbium:yttrium aluminum garnet (Er:YAG) laser therapy in the treatment of XP.

Purpose: To perform vertical bone augmentation on rat parietal bone by coating the inner surface of dense polytetrafluoroethylene (d-PTFE) domes with hydroxyapatite (HA) using Erbium Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (Er:YAG) pulsed laser deposition in a rat model.
Methods: The d-PTFE plate surface, α-tricalcium phosphate (α-TCP) coating, and HA coating were measured using scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction to confirm the replacement of α-TCP with HA via high-pressure steam sterilization. The dome was glued to the center of the rat parietal bone and closed with periosteal and epithelial sutures.

For silicon-based devices using dielectric oxides doped with rare earth ions, their electroluminescence (EL) performance relies on the sufficient carrier injection. In this work, the atomic GaO layers are inserted within the Er-doped GeO nanofilms fabricated by atomic layer deposition (ALD). Both Ga(CH) and Ga(CH) could realize the ALD growth of GaO onto the as-deposited GeO nanofilm with unaffected deposition rates.
