Surviving cardiac arrest.

J Contin Educ Nurs

Published: September 2009

Surviving cardiac arrest requires high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation, advanced life support interventions, and optimal post-cardiac arrest care. After return of spontaneous circulation and stabilization of airway, breathing, and circulation, the focus shifts to the treatment of post-cardiac arrest syndrome. Research indicates this unique and complex syndrome requires specific treatment strategies.

Proposal: Bold New Indications for Transcatheter Pulmonary Flow Restrictors.

Pediatr Cardiol

January 2025

Pediatric Heart Center, Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe University Clinic, Theodor-Storm-Kai 7, 60596, Frankfurt, Germany.

This proposal presents a proof of concept for the use of pulmonary flow restrictors (PFRs) based on MVP™-devices, drawing from clinical experience, and explores their potential role in the management of newborns with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), other complex left heart lesions, and infants with end-stage dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). At this early stage of age, manually adjusted PFRs can be tailored to patient's size and hemodynamic needs. Although currently used off-label, PFRs have substantial potential to improve outcomes in these vulnerable patient populations.

Neonates with congenital heart disease (CHD) who undergo cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) are at high-risk for unfavorable neurodevelopmental (ND) outcomes and are recommended for ND evaluation (NDE); however, poor rates have been reported. We aimed to identify risk factors associated with lack of NDE. This single-center retrospective observational study included neonates < 30 days old who underwent CPB and survived to discharge between 2012 and 2018.

Purpose: Subclinical peroneal neuropathy without overt foot drop has been linked to increased fall risk in adults, yet remains under reported due to subtle symptoms and lack of awareness. Patients with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) often experience other nerve entrapments, prompting this study to evaluate CTS (a proxy for peroneal nerve entrapment) as a significant predictor of time to first fall.

Methods: Data from the Merative MarketScan Research Databases (2007-2021) were used to identify adult patients using ICD-9/10 codes.

Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of initial hemostatic resuscitation(IHR) on the treatment of bleeding with recombinant human coagulation factor VIIa after cardiac surgery.

Methods: The clinical data of patients who received rFVIIa hemostatic treatment after cardiac surgery at Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Capital Medical University, from January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2021 were retrospectively collected. A total of 152 cases were included in the study.

Purpose: We sought to investigate the expression of MALAT1, plasma brain natriuretic peptide, and Tei index in sepsis-induced myocardial injury.

Methods: The current retrospective analysis focused on 146 sepsis patients admitted to our hospital from February 2021 to March 2023. Based on the presence or absence of myocardial injury, the patients were divided into two groups: the sepsis group (n = 80) and the sepsis-induced myocardial injury group (n = 66).
