Background: Nevus of Hori (HN) has been primarily reported in patients of Eastern Asian descent, with a paucity of data regarding HN occurring in African patients. In this study, we report on South African patients with HN initially thought to have melasma.
Objective: To characterize the histopathological and clinical phenotypes of HN in African patients.

Background: Cardiomyopathy is a disease that affects the myocardium and can be classified as dilated, restrictive, or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Among the subtypes, restrictive cardiomyopathy is characterized by restriction of ventricular filling and its uncommon cause is a disease due to mutation on Filamin C (FLNC) gene. Filamin C is an actin-binding protein encoded by FLNC gene and participates in sarcomere stability maintenance, which is expressed on the striated muscle.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFMYT1L syndrome is a newly recognized disorder characterized by intellectual disability, speech and motor delay, neuroendocrine disruptions, ADHD, and autism. In order to study this gene and its association with these phenotypes, our lab recently created a heterozygous mutant mouse inspired by a clinically relevant mutation. This model recapitulates several of the physical and neurologic abnormalities seen in humans with MYT1L syndrome, such as weight gain, microcephaly, and behavioral disruptions.

UFs arise from genetic alterations in myometrial stem cells (MM SCs) that trigger their transformation into tumor initiating cells (UF SCs). Understanding the mechanisms behind cell identity shifts in oncogenic transformation and cancer progression is crucial for advancing our understanding of melanoma and other aggressive cancers. While distinct melanoma phenotypic states have been well characterized, the processes and transcriptional controls that enable cells to shift between these states remain largely unknown.
