Background: The gold standard for assessing neonatal jaundice (NJ) is the serum total serum bilirubin (TSB) level by the diazo method. A transcutaneous bilirubinometer (TCB) provides a convenient, noninvasive readout within minutes. The reliability of TCB as the diagnostic tool and the proper site for TCB measurement remains unsettled.

Analysis of Fluorescent-Stained Lipid Droplets with 3D Reconstruction for Hepatic Steatosis Assessment.

Lipid droplets (LDs) are specialized organelles that mediate lipid storage and play a very important role in suppressing lipotoxicity and preventing dysfunction caused by free fatty acids (FAs). The liver, given its critical role in the body's fat metabolism, is persistently threatened by the intracellular accumulation of LDs in the form of both microvesicular and macrovesicular hepatic steatosis. The histologic characterization of LDs is typically based on lipid-soluble diazo dyes, such as Oil Red O (ORO) staining, but a number of disadvantages consistently hamper the use of this analysis with liver specimens.

Asymmetric [3 + 1]-Cycloaddition Reaction via Diazo Discrimination.

Org Lett

October 2021

Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Advanced Catalytic Materials & Technology, School of Petrochemical Engineering, Changzhou University, Changzhou 213164, P. R. China.

The enantioselective [3 + 1]-cycloaddition of two structurally different diazo compounds has been achieved using chiral bisoxazoline copper(I) complexes as a catalyst, providing a novel route for the synthesis of cyclobutenes containing a quaternary stereocenter. Typically, this reaction represents the first example of asymmetric cross-electrophile coupling of two diazo substrates via carbene discrimination.

This paper describes a straightforward electrochemical method for rapid and robust urinary microRNA (miRNA) quantification using disposable biosensors that can discriminate between urine from diabetic kidney disease (DKD) patients and control subjects. Aberrant miRNA expression has been observed in several major human disorders, and we have identified a urinary miRNA signature for DKD. MiRNAs therefore have considerable promise as disease biomarkers, and techniques to quantify these transcripts from clinical samples have significant clinical and commercial potential.

Asymmetric Catalytic [2,3] Stevens and Sommelet-Hauser Rearrangements of α-Diazo Pyrazoleamides with Sulfides.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

September 2019

Key Laboratory of Green Chemistry & Technology, Ministry of Education, College of Chemistry, Sichuan University, Chengdu, 610064, China.

Catalytic enantioselective [2,3] Stevens and Sommelet-Hauser rearrangements of α-diazo pyrazoleamides with sulfides were achieved by utilizing chiral N,N'-dioxide/nickel( ) complex catalysts. These rearrangements proceeded well under mild reaction conditions, providing rapid and facile access to a series of functionalized 1,6-dicarbonyls or sulfane-substituted phenylacetates with high to excellent enantioselectivities. The catalytic system shows excellent stereocontrol, discriminating between the heterotopic lone pairs of sulfur and controlling both the 1,3-proton transfer and the [2,3]-σ rearrangement.
