Background: Previous literature has highlighted that excessive alcohol use (EAU) is directly linked with permanent neurological damage. Studies have also highlighted gradual improvements in heart rate variability (HRV) after cessation of alcohol use. Moreover, chronic alcohol consumption has also been correlated with reduced HRV and an increase in skin conductance (SC) among healthy adults, leading to a combined decline in cognitive performance.

The Empatica EmbracePlus is a recent innovation in medical-grade wristband wearable sensors that enable unobtrusive continuous measurement of pulse rate, electrodermal activity, skin temperature, and various accelerometry-based actigraphy measures using a minimalistic smartwatch design. The advantage of this lightweight wearable is the potential for holistic longitudinal recording and monitoring of physiological processes that index a suite of autonomic functions, as well as to provide ecologically valid insights into human behaviour, health, physical activity, and psychophysiological processes. Given the longitudinal nature of wearable recordings, EmbracePlus data collection is managed by storing raw timeseries in short 'chunks' in avro file format organised by universal standard time.

Introduction: Though wrist-worn photoplethysmography (PPG) sensors play an important role in long-term and continuous heart rhythm monitoring, signals measured at the wrist are contaminated by more intense motion artifacts compared to other body locations. Machine learning (ML)-based algorithms can improve long-term pulse rate (PR) tracking but are associated with more stringent regulatory requirements when intended for clinical use. This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of a digital health technology using wrist-worn PPG sensors and an ML-based algorithm to measure PR continuously.

Advancements in integrated circuit (IC) technology have accelerated the miniaturization of body-worn sensors and systems, enabling long-term health monitoring. Wearable electrocardiogram (ECG), finger photoplethysmogram (PPG), and wrist-worn PPG have shown great success and significantly improved life quality. Chest-based PPG has the potential to extract multiple vital signs but requires ultra-high dynamic range (DR) IC to read out the small PPG signal among large respiration and artifacts inherent in daily life.

Background: Stroke survivors usually present sedentary lifestyles and fail to comply with the World Health Organization physical activity recommendations. Reliable, low-cost, and fast tools are needed to monitor physical activity levels in this population.
Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the content and face validity, construct validity, and test-retest stability of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short-Form (IPAQ-SF) in stroke survivors.
