In the title coordination compound, [Zn(C(12)H(6)O(4))(C(14)H(14)N(4))](n), the two Zn(II) centers exhibit different coordination environments. One Zn(II) center is four-coordinated in a distorted tetrahedral environment surrounded by two carboxylate O atoms from two different naphthalene-1,4-dicarboxylate (1,4-ndc) anions and two N atoms from two distinct 1,4-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene (1,4-bix) ligands. The coordination of the second Zn(II) center comprises two N atoms from two different 1,4-bix ligands and three carboxylate O atoms from two different 1,4-ndc ligands in a highly distorted square-pyramidal environment. The 1,4-bix ligand and the 1,4-ndc anion link adjacent Zn(II) centers into a two-dimensional four-connected (4,4) network. The two (4,4) networks are interpenetrated in a parallel mode.

Three fluorescent Zn coordaintion polymers (CPs) have been synthesized from the reactions of Zn(NO3)2∙6H2O, benzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid (1,4-H2bdc), and angular carbazole-derived bispyridyl ligands (Cz-3,6-bpy or Cz-Pr-3,6-bpy). CPs 1-3 all adopt similar two-dimensional (2D) ring-and-rod layer structures, described as topologically 4-connected 2∙65 nets where the Zn(II) centers act as 4-connected nodes. CPs 1 and 2 are a pair of solvent-mediated supramolecular isomers where the former shows a two-fold interlocked 2D → 2D polyrotaxane-like entangled net and the latter reveals a four-fold interpenetrated 2D → 3D polyrotaxane entanglement.

Sulfur nanoparticles (SNPs) and their composites are promising for heavy metal adsorption, yet current SNPs often lack surface S, leading to low affinity toward heavy metal and ease of aggregation. Here, we report a simple light-driven method for facile prepare SNPs with surfaces enriched with S and in-situ load them onto graphene oxide (GO) to fabricate GO-S composites. Under illumination, the O generated by photosensitizer phloxine B was able to oxidize S into elemental SNPs.

Background: Mammalian metallothioneins (MTs) play a crucial role in maintaining Zn(II) and Cu(I) homeostasis, as well as regulating the cellular redox potential. They are involved in cancer resistance to cisplatin-related drugs and the sequestration of toxic metal ions. To investigate their participation in specific physiological and pathological processes, it is imperative to develop an analytical method for measuring changes in protein concentration both in vitro and in vivo.

The Suzuki-Miyaura Coupling (SMC) reaction is a powerful method for forming carbon-carbon bonds in organic synthesis. Recent advancements in SMC reactions have introduced first-row transition metal catalysts, with zinc garnering significant interest due to its cost-effective and eco-friendly nature. Despite progress in experimental protocols, the mechanistic details of zinc-catalyzed SMC reactions are limited.

Photodynamic inactivation (PDI) has been revealed as a valuable approach against viral infections because of the fast therapeutic effect and low possibility of resistance development. The photodynamic inhibition of the infectivity of human herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) strain Victoria at different stages of its reproduction was studied. PDI activity was determined on extracellular virions, on the stage of their adsorption to the Madin-Darby bovine kidney (MDBK) cell line and inhibition of the viral replication stage by application of two tetra-methylpyridiloxy substituted gallium and zinc phthalocyanines (ZnPcMe and GaPcMe) upon 660 nm light exposure with a light-emitting diode (LED 660 nm).
