Regenerative properties of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell derived exosomes in rotator cuff tears.

J Transl Med

January 2025

Department of Joint Surgery, The Affiliated Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, Southwest Medical University, Luzhou, Sichuan, China.

Rotator cuff injury (RCI), characterized by shoulder pain and restricted mobility, represents a subset of tendon-bone insertion injuries (TBI). In the majority of cases, surgical reconstruction of the affected tendons or ligaments is required to address the damage. However, numerous clinical failures have underscored the suboptimal outcomes associated with such procedures.

Age-related muscle wasting, sarcopenia is an extensive loss of muscle mass and strength with age and a major cause of disability and accidents in the elderly. Mechanisms purported to be involved in muscle ageing and sarcopenia are numerous but poorly understood, necessitating deeper study. Hence, we employed high-throughput RNA sequencing to survey the global changes in protein-coding gene expression occurring in skeletal muscle with age.

Despite the widespread use of anticoagulant rodenticides in baits for controlling commensal rodent pests, their application is problematic due to secondary intoxication and increasing resistance. In contrast to studies on Western European house mice (Mus musculus domesticus), few resistance studies have focused on Eastern European house mice (M. musculus musculus), which have a western distribution boundary in the Czech Republic.

Can We Maintain Muscle Mass on a Plant-Based Diet?

Curr Nutr Rep

January 2025

Department of Internal Medicine, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, USA.

Purpose Of Review: This review aims to determine whether muscle mass and function can be effectively maintained without relying on animal-based protein sources. We evaluate the quality, digestibility, and essential amino acid profiles of plant-based proteins to understand their potential in preventing and managing sarcopenia.

Recent Finding: Recent studies indicate that while animal-based proteins have traditionally been considered the gold standard for supporting muscle protein synthesis, certain plant-based protein blends, fortified with leucine or other essential amino acids, can produce comparable anabolic responses.

Synergistic Effects of Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Physical Activity on Oxidative Stress Markers and Antioxidant Mechanisms in Aged Rats.

Nutrients

December 2024

Institute of Medical Chemistry, Biochemistry and Clinical Biochemistry, Comenius University, Faculty of Medicine, Sasinkova 2, 811 08 Bratislava, Slovakia.

Background: Aging induces degenerative processes in the body, contributing to the onset of various age-associated diseases that affect the population. Inadequate dietary habits and low physical activity are major contributors to increased morbidity during aging. This study aimed to investigate the combined effects of omega-3 fatty acid supplementation and physical activity on the markers of oxidative stress and antioxidant defense mechanisms in aged male Wistar rats (23-24 months).
