In this study, we propose a non-invasive algorithm to recognize the timings of fetal cardiac events on the basis of analysis of fetal ECG (FECG) and Doppler ultrasound signals. Multiresolution wavelet analysis enabled the frequency contents of the Doppler signals to be linked to the opening (o) and closing (c) of the heart's valves (Aortic (A) and Mitral (M)). M-mode, B-mode and pulsed Doppler ultrasound were used to verify the timings of opening and closure of these valves. In normal fetuses, the time intervals from Q-wave of QRS complex of FECG to opening and closing of aortic valve, i.e., Q-Ao and Q-Ac were found to be 79.3 +/- 17.4 and 224.7 +/- 13.3 ms, respectively. For the mitral valve, Q-Mc and Q-Mo were found to be 27.7 +/- 9.4 and 294.6 +/- 21.3 ms, respectively. Correlations among the timings in opening and closing of cardiac valves were found to be higher in abnormal fetuses than that in normal ones.

Correlated spin-wave generation and domain-wall oscillation in a topologically textured magnetic film.

Condensed Matter Physics and Materials Science Division, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, NY, USA.

Spin waves, or magnons, are essential for next-generation energy-efficient spintronics and magnonics. Yet, visualizing spin-wave dynamics at nanoscale and microwave frequencies remains a formidable challenge due to the lack of spin-sensitive, time-resolved microscopy. Here we report a breakthrough in imaging dipole-exchange spin waves in a ferromagnetic film owing to the development of laser-free ultrafast Lorentz electron microscopy, which is equipped with a microwave-mediated electron pulser for high spatiotemporal resolution.

A Spiropyran-Based Hydrogel Composite for Wearable Detectors to Monitor Visible Light Intensity to Prevent Myopia.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

Key Laboratory of Advanced Textile Materials & Manufacturing Technology, Ministry of Education, Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, 928 Second Avenue, 310018 Hangzhou, China.

A wearable detector to monitor visible light intensity is realized by the restrained photochromism of a hydrogel composite containing light-responsive spiropyran with hydroxyl groups (SPOH). When exposed to visible light, the SPOH experiences a ring-opening to a ring-closed transition accompanied by discoloration from red to yellow. Unlike in the solution, the photochromism/discoloration rate is strongly correlated to the cross-linking points.

Compound-specific stable isotope analysis (CSIA) using liquid chromatography-isotope ratio mass spectrometry (LC-IRMS) is a powerful tool for determining the isotopic composition of carbon in analytes from complex mixtures. However, LC-IRMS methods are constrained to fully aqueous eluents. Previous efforts to overcome this limitation were unsuccessful, as the use of organic eluents in LC-IRMS was deemed impossible.

A novel HSO-catalyzed ANRORC-type rearrangement of pyrazinones to imidazoles proceeding through pyridazino[]annulation with simultaneous introduction of a pyrazole ring at position 2 of the imidazole system has been developed, which offers efficient and expedited access to new biheterocyclic systems - 2-(pyrazol-3-ul)imidazoles and 2-(pyrazol-3-yl)imidazo[4,5-]pyridazines. Diverse bi--heterocyclic systems with the imidazo[4,5-]pyridazine-4,7-diamine moiety could be obtained in excellent yield when 5,6-dicyano-3-(2-oxo-2-ethyl)pyrazin-2(1)-ones interact with hydrazines the selective spiro-formation in a tandem ring-opening/ring-closing process, which allowed the simultaneous construction of five new C-N bonds. This new method is compatible with an array of functional groups, proceeds under mild reaction conditions with the involvement of commercially available reagents.

Bioabsorbable magnesium-based bulk metallic glass composite (BMGC) for improved medial opening wedge high tibial osteotomy in knee osteoarthritis.

Graduate Institute of Biomedical Materials and Tissue Engineering, College of Biomedical Engineering, Taipei Medical University, 6F Biomedical Technology Building, No. 301, Yuantong Rd., Zhonghe Dist., New Taipei City, 23564, Taiwan.

Background And Objective: Osteoarthritis is a widespread and debilitating condition, particularly affecting the medial compartment of knee joint due to varus knee deformities. Medial opening wedge high tibial osteotomy (MOWHTO) has emerged as an effective treatment, but it comes with challenges like fractures, correction loss, and nonunion, leading to unsatisfactory results in up to 26 % of patients. In response, our study explores the potential of a bioabsorbable magnesium-based bulk metallic glass composite (MgZnCa BMGC) enriched with molybdenum particles as an innovative solution for MOWHTO.
