Background: Total vascular exclusion (TVE) with liver hypothermic perfusion under venovenous bypass (VVB) is usually needed to perform hepatectomy with Inferior vena cava and hepatic veins resection-reconstruction. An alternative technique is represented by liver resection under intermittent pedicular clamping, IVC total clamping and VVB, without cold perfusion and liver outflow drainage through the VVB. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The patient is a 60-year-old woman with past medical history of right hepatectomy for leiomyosarcoma 14 years previously.

Venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) has been utilized to treat massive pulmonary embolism (PE) accompanied by cardiac arrest or refractory cardiogenic shock. Our team opted for a femoral-femoral approach for vascular cannulation, using drainage and return cannulas in the common femoral vein and artery, respectively. However, femoral venous cannulation can be limited or challenging due to the presence of thrombus in the inferior vena cava (IVC), making the insertion of the drainage cannula via the femoral vein difficult.

Cerebral air embolism (CAE) is a rare but life-threatening condition often associated with trauma, such as chest and skull injuries, which allow air to enter the venous system, as well as medical procedures and surgical interventions. It can occur during the insertion of peripheral cannulas or central midline catheters, following lung biopsy procedures, or during vascular surgeries, particularly those involving the head and neck region. CAE can also develop during the removal of central venous cannulas, as air may enter the bloodstream in the process.

Background: During our years of working with ferrets in our laboratory animal facility, we observed that in several healthy young female ferrets, signs of anaemia could be detected during the entry examination although none of the ferrets expressed any clinical symptoms at the time of blood withdrawal. We aimed to compare the influence of inhalation anaesthesia with isoflurane and sevoflurane to restrained, awake ferrets on several blood parameters. After arrival at our facility all ferrets received a hormone chip to subdue oestrus.
