We recently described how DELLA proteins are involved in plant growth responses to neighbors in dense stands. These responses that are called shade avoidance include enhanced stem and petiole elongation and are a classic example of adaptive phenotypic plasticity. Although much is known about neighbor detection, much less is known about the signal transduction network downstream of these signals. We will discuss here how a group of growth-supressors, called DELLA proteins, are functionally regulated upon the detection of neighbors. DELLA proteins are degraded upon binding of gibberellin (GA) to its receptor, thus releasing the restraint of GA responses. We discuss here that GA positively regulates shade avoidance by reducing DELLA protein levels. Furthermore, we will show that this is an essential step in shade avoidance, but also that reduced DELLA abundance alone is not sufficient to induce these growth responses. It is concluded that GA-dependent DELLA degradation is one essential step in the signal transduction network from light-mediated neighbor detection towards adaptive shoot elongation responses.

We analysed here the dynamic of the kinesin-like Pavarotti (Pav) during male gametogenesis of wild-type and Sas4 mutant flies. Pav localizes to the equatorial region and the inner central spindle of late anaphase wild-type spermatogonia and displays a strong concentration at the midbody during late telophase. At metaphase of the first meiotic division, Pav shows widespread localization on the equatorial region of the spermatocytes.

Background And Objectives: Levels of activated complement proteins in the CSF are increased in people with multiple sclerosis (MS) and are associated with clinical disease severity. In this study, we determined whether complement activation profiles track with quantitative MRI metrics and liquid biomarkers indicative of disease activity and progression.
Methods: Complement components and activation products (Factor H and I, C1q, C3, C4, C5, Ba, Bb, C3a, C4a, C5a, and sC5b-9) and liquid biomarkers (neurofilament light chain, glial fibrillary acidic protein [GFAP], CXCL-13, CXCL-9, and IL-12b) were quantified in the CSF of 112 patients with clinically isolated syndromes and 127 patients with MS; longitudinal MRIs according to a standardized protocol of the Swiss MS cohort were assessed.
