Objective: Military personnel returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with traumatic brain injury (TBI) present with a complex array of stressors encountered during combat as well as upon re-entry, often with additional physical and mental health comorbidities. This requires an intensive approach to treatment that includes family intervention as a part of rehabilitation. There is a small but growing literature addressing the needs of families when a family member has sustained a TBI. An established treatment intervention for individuals with serious mental illness, such as family focused therapy (FFT), is uniquely suited to address the complexity of issues presented by returning military personnel, and may be adapted for moderate to severe TBI populations. In this article, we discuss the rationale for adapting this family intervention for this population and present a case vignette illustrating adaptations for TBI.

Conclusions: The adaptation of an existing family intervention for a chronic condition that focuses on enhancing both individual and family functioning is a useful starting point. With further research to modify FFT for this unique population and establish feasibility, this approach may supplement existing models of family intervention.

Pneumococcal infections are a serious health issue associated with increased morbidity and mortality. This systematic review evaluated the efficacy, effectiveness, immunogenicity, and safety of the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV)15 compared to other pneumococcal vaccines or no vaccination in children and adults. We identified 20 randomized controlled trials (RCTs).

Warfarin is the most widely used oral anticoagulant in clinical practice. The cytochrome P450 2C9 (CYP2C9), vitamin K epoxide reductase complex 1 (VKORC1), and cytochrome P450 4F2 (CYP4F2) genotypes are associated with warfarin dose requirements in China. Accurate genotyping is vital for obtaining reliable genotype-guided warfarin dosing information.

This study presents a web application for predicting cardiovascular disease (CVD) and hypertension (HTN) among mine workers using machine learning (ML) techniques. The dataset, collected from 699 participants at the Gol-Gohar mine in Iran between 2016 and 2020, includes demographic, occupational, lifestyle, and medical information. After preprocessing and feature engineering, the Random Forest algorithm was identified as the best-performing model, achieving 99% accuracy for HTN prediction and 97% for CVD, outperforming other algorithms such as Logistic Regression and Support Vector Machines.

Introduction: Insecticide-treated bed nets are often used as a physical barrier to prevent infection of malaria. In Sub-Saharan Africa, one of the most important ways of reducing the malaria burden is the utilization of insecticide-treated bed nets. However, there is no sufficient information on the utilization of insecticide-treated bed nets and their associated factors in Ethiopia.

Total synthesis and target identification of marine cyclopiane diterpenes.

Marine cyclopianes are a family of diterpenoid with novel carbon skeleton and diverse biological activities. Herein, we report our synthetic and chemical proteomics studies of cyclopiane diterpenes which culminate in the asymmetric total synthesis of conidiogenones C, K and 12β-hydroxy conidiogenone C, and identification of Immunity-related GTPase family M protein 1 (IRGM1) as a cellular target. Our asymmetric synthesis commences from Wieland-Miescher ketone and features a sequential intramolecular Pauson-Khand reaction and gold-catalyzed Nazarov cyclization to rapidly construct the 6-5-5-5 tetracyclic skeleton.
