From Sunlight to Solutions: Closing the Loop on Halide Perovskites.

ACS Mater Au

January 2025

Institute for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Knoxville, Tennessee 37996, United States.

Halide perovskites (HPs) are emerging as key materials in the fight against global warming with well recognized applications, such as photovoltaics, and emergent opportunities, such as photocatalysis for methane removal and environmental remediation. These current and emergent applications are enabled by a unique combination of high absorption coefficients, tunable band gaps, and long carrier diffusion lengths, making them highly efficient for solar energy conversion. To address the challenge of discovery and optimization of HPs in huge chemical and compositional spaces of possible candidates, this perspective discusses a comprehensive strategy for screening HPs through automated high-throughput and combinatorial synthesis techniques.

The pathway alteration load is a pan-cancer determinant of outcome of targeted therapies: results from the Drug Rediscovery Protocol (DRUP).

ESMO Open

January 2025

Division of Molecular Oncology & Immunology, Netherlands Cancer Institute, Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Oncode Institute, Utrecht, The Netherlands. Electronic address:

Background: Many patients with cancer exhibit primary or rapid secondary resistance to targeted therapy (TT). We hypothesized that a higher number of altered oncogenic signaling pathways [pathway alteration load (PAL)] would reduce the benefit of TT which only intervenes in one pathway. This hypothesis was tested in the Drug Rediscovery Protocol (DRUP).

Cancer is a therapeutically challenging and genomically complicated disease. Pioneering studies have uncovered multifaceted aspects of cancer, ranging from intra- and inter-tumor heterogeneity, drug resistance, and genetic/epigenetic mutations. Loss of apoptosis is another critical aspect that makes cancer cells resistant to death.

Facile preparation of a hydrophilic Eu-based ratiometric fluorescent nanosensor for Cu ion detection and imaging in living cells.

Anal Methods

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Combinatorial Biosynthesis and Drug Discovery (Ministry of Education), School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Wuhan University, Wuhan, 430072, China.

In this work, a hydrophilic Eu-based ratiometric fluorescent nanosensor (PAAC-Eu) was developed for Cu ion detection in aqueous solutions and imaging in living cells. The sensor was prepared a simple one-step reaction at room temperature, leveraging the synergistic coordination of commercially accessible polyacrylic acid (PAA) and coumarin-3-carboxylic acid (CCAH) with Eu ions. PAAC-Eu was easy to disperse in aqueous media and exhibited two characteristic emission bands at 406 nm and 618 nm, respectively, upon excitation at 350 nm.

High-throughput, combinatorial droplet generation by sequential spraying.

Lab Chip

January 2025

Meinig School of Biomedical Engineering, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, USA.

Advancements in bulk and microfluidic emulsion methodologies have enabled highly efficient, high-throughput implementations of biochemical assays. Spray-based techniques offer rapid generation, droplet immobilization, and accessibility, but remain relatively underutilized, likely because they result in random and polydisperse droplets. However, the polydisperse characteristic can be leveraged; at sufficiently high droplet numbers, sequential sprays will generate mixed droplets which effectively populate a combinatorial space.
