A six year old boy who presented with sudden onset of difficulty in breathing following a week's history of cough and a sensation of foreign body in the throat. On clinical examination he was in severe respiratory distress with markedly diminished breath sounds bilaterally. Respiratory distress was positional with some relief observed with change in position. A CT scan done showed normal thoracic inlet and a chest X-ray showed hyperinflation of the lungs bilaterally. Direct laryngoscopy under general anesthesia revealed an extensive mass of papilomatous growth occluding the glottis; this was excised and processed in the histopathology Laboratory. Patient recovered fully and was discharged from the hospital two days after surgery in excellent condition. A monthly follow up for six months after discharge was uneventful, with no recurrence.

Porcine teschovirus (PTV) is a devastating virus that targets the central nervous system and led to great economic losses in Europe between the 1920s and 1960s. Since 1973, PTV variants with lower pathogenicity have been prevalent globally, whereas highly pathogenic PTV strains have rarely emerged. In 2022, diarrhea with high mortality occurred on a pig farm in Gansu China.

Background: Inspiratory and expiratory muscle training (RMT) has been shown to have beneficial effects in individuals with long-term post-COVID-19 symptoms.
Objective: To assess the effects of adding RMT to an aerobic exercise (AE) training program for health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and exercise tolerance in individuals with long-term post-COVID-19 symptoms, and to evaluate the effects on physical and lung function, and psychological status.
Methods: 64 individuals with long-term post-COVID-19 symptoms of fatigue and dyspnoea were randomly assigned to AE+RMT or AE+RMT groups for an 8-wk intervention (AE: 50min/day, 2 times/wk; RMT: 40min/day, 3 times/wk).

Acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) are the result of an exaggerated inflammatory response triggered by a variety of pulmonary and systemic insults. The lung tissues are comprised of a variety of cell types, including alveolar epithelial cells, pulmonary vascular endothelial cells, macrophages, neutrophils, and others. There is mounting evidence that these diverse cell populations within the lung interact to regulate lung inflammation in response to both direct and indirect stimuli.

Acute cardiovascular disorders are incriminated in up to 33% of maternal deaths, and the presence of sickle cell anemia (SCA) aggravates the risk of peripartum complications. Herein, we present a 24-year-old Caribbean woman with known SCA who developed a vaso-occlusive crisis at 36 weeks of gestation that required emergency Cesarean section. In the early postpartum period, she experienced fever with rapid onset of acute respiratory distress in the context of COVID-19 infection that required tracheal intubation and mechanical ventilatory support with broad-spectrum antibiotics and blood exchange transfusion.
