Tick-borne spotted fever rickettsioses (SFRs) continue to cause severe illness and death in otherwise-healthy individuals due to lack of a timely and reliable diagnostic laboratory test. We recently identified a diagnostic biomarker for SFRs, the putative N-acetylmuramoyl-l-alanine amidase RC0497. Division of General Internal Medicine, Colorado Clinical & Translational Sciences Institute, and the Adult & Child Center for Outcomes Research & Delivery Science, University of Colorado School of Medicine, 1890 N. Revere Ct., Aurora, CO, 80045, USA.

Background: Designing for Dissemination and Sustainability (D4DS) principles and methods can support the development of research products (interventions, tools, findings) that match well with the needs and context of the intended audience and setting. D4DS principles and methods are not well-known or used during clinical and public health research; research teams would benefit from applying D4DS. This paper presents the development of a new digital platform for research teams to learn and apply a D4DS process to their work.

Invasive Candidiasis.

Infect Dis Clin North Am

December 2024

University of Alabama at Birmingham, 1900 University Boulevard, 223 THT, Birmingham, AL 35294, USA. Electronic address:

Invasive candidiasis (IC) is a term that refers to a group of infectious syndromes caused by a variety of Candida species, 6 of which cause the vast majority of cases globally. Candidemia is probably the most commonly recognized syndrome associated with IC; however, Candida species can cause invasive infection of any organ, especially visceral organs, vasculature, bones and joints, eyes, and central nervous system. The optimal use of these newer diagnostics coupled with a thoughtful clinical assessment of at-risk patients and the judicious use of effective antifungal therapy is a key to achieving good antifungal stewardship and improved patient outcomes.
