We present a theoretical model and 2D numerical simulation of cascaded four-wave mixing of femtosecond pulses in bulk chi((3)) media, evidencing the importance of 2D interaction geometries in the efficient generation of frequency-converted pulses. Octave-spanning spectra and pulse synthesis down to the sub-two-cycle regime is demonstrated without the need for complex amplitude or phase control, in agreement with experimental measurements.

This study demonstrates the potential to generate a soft x-ray single-cycle attosecond pulse using a single-cycle mid-infrared pulse from advanced dual-chirped optical parametric amplification (DC-OPA). A super continuum high harmonic (HH) spectrum was generated in argon (80-160 eV) and neon (150-270 eV). The experimental spectra reasonably agree with those calculated by the strong-field approximation model and Maxwell's equations.

The central theme of cavity quantum electrodynamics is the coupling of a single optical mode with a single matter excitation, leading to a doublet of cavity polaritons which govern the optical properties of the coupled structure. Especially in the ultrastrong coupling regime, where the ratio of the vacuum Rabi frequency and the quasi-resonant carrier frequency of light, Ω/ , approaches unity, the polariton doublet bridges a large spectral bandwidth 2Ω, and further interactions with off-resonant light and matter modes may occur. The resulting multi-mode coupling has recently attracted attention owing to the additional degrees of freedom for designing light-matter coupled resonances, despite added complexity.

Numerical modeling of ultrashort pulse propagation is important for designing and understanding the underlying dynamical processes in devices that take advantage of highly nonlinear interactions in dispersion-engineered optical waveguides. Once the spectral bandwidth reaches an octave or more, multiple types of nonlinear polarization terms can drive individual optical frequencies. This issue is particularly prominent in χ devices where all harmonics of the input pulse are generated and there can be extensive spectral overlap between them.

High repetition rate femtosecond filaments in transparent solids produce conical third harmonic generation due to filament-induced material reorganization in the form of periodic volume nanogratings. Here we report on conical third harmonic generation that accompanies supercontinuum generation in fused silica using broadly tunable femtosecond pulses. The measurement of third harmonic cone angles with driving wavelengths in the 1-3-m range fully supports the noncollinear phase-matching scenario that involves a reciprocal lattice vector of the filament-inscribed nanograting.

Optical frequency combs based on semiconductor lasers are a promising technology for monolithic integration of dual-comb spectrometers. However, the stabilization of offset frequency f remains a challenging feat due the lack of octave-spanning spectra. In a dual-comb configuration, the uncorrelated jitter of the offset frequencies leads to a non-periodic signal resulting in broadened beatnotes with a limited signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).
