Flexible endoscopy is a valuable tool for the diagnosis of many small animal digestive tract diseases. This article provides a basic introduction to small animal gastrointestinal endoscopy including its diagnostic advantages as well as its limitations and complications. Although proficiency in endoscopic techniques can only be obtained through many hours of practice, this article should also encourage and stimulate the novice endoscopist.

Since abdominal adhesion are quite problematic in abdominal and pelvic surgery, the conventional HA/CMC film are commonly used as an anti-adhesive material. When a difficult airway is anticipated, awake tracheal intubation can be considered. Usually, low doses of sedatives are administered during this procedure for minimal sedation and anxiolysis, such as midazolam and remifentanil. The newly developed ultra-short-acting benzodiazepine remimazolam has a pharmacokinetic profile that is more suitable for titration during awake tracheal intubation than the long-acting midazolam.
